8mm Tape stops when rewinding

I have a Sony 8mm camera that works fine with most tapes. A few tapes stop when rewinding in the middle. I also have a tape that will play forward and rewind only to a certain point (not the beginning of the tape). The camera thinks it rewinded to the beginning because the tape icon shows full. Is there a way to rewind it to the beginning?

What would be the cause of other rewinding problems? Is there a place that I can send these to, to get fixed and/or fixed/transferred to DVD's?

Try this:
some cameras have a memory where they begin make sure the memory is off or cleared then try to rewind or try fwd to end clear memory then rewind tape...

now sometime tapes of 120 are really not recommended because of the load of tape amd ost have a tension sensor 60m is usually the best recommended

My Sony DCR-TRV740 camera I just purchased (used), has a playback problem with my 8mm's. When I got the unit I cleaned it well with chamois swaps and MG video cleaner(Recommended by all experts it see

You have a clogged video head. It happens. Do not use the chamois again. Instead, purchase an 8mm head cleaner and give that a try. Only use a brand name cleaner - no generics, and make sure it doesn't come from China!

HAVE CCD-TRV22 , WHAT VIDEO TAPE NUMBER DO I

Though 8mm filming was and still is the best safest way to make movies Sony have stopped producing 8mm tapes, I use the brand new Digital 8 tapes on my brand new Sony camera, would never dream of going over to Hard drive/SD card/DVD recording cameras as the image will not last as long as it will on 8mm tape.
Also the 8mm cameras are much better made than anything since 2006.
If you type 8mm movie tapes in your search engine you will find 100's of firms still selling your tapes, they will help you choose the right one ok?

Loads tape then stops - won't play rewind fast

Way to go. Usually if you use anisotropic Alcohol with a few Q-tips works well I've found.
Try cleaning the other tap path items like the capstan that the pinch roller get's pushed up to also with this Alcohol. The cleaner the better the tape goes through. Much better picture.

Can you rewind a sony 8mm tape manually? End of tape messed up and trying to get it rewound enough that it will finish

It's been awhile, but I believe there is a round "switch" on the bottom of the tape that is on the same edge that the tape itself faces. First you depress the "switch", and then you will be able to turn the spools that are inside the tape. If you are facing the edge of the tape case that lets you see the tape itself, you would turn the left handed spool in a clockwise direction to rewind it. Hopefully that will help you.

Sony TRV510-playback, audio choppy, image isn't clear

I was having the exact same problems, and I read a post on this website somewhere recommending that I just record a few seconds of video on a blank portion of tape and then the camera should start playing video normally again.

I tried it, and IT WORKED!!
