I replaced the two bulbs underneath the microwave 2 months ago. The bulbs blew out again. Also the light only turned on once inside the microwave. How do you get to the light that suppose to light up when your warming your food? Does anyone have these problems?

Interior Light Is Out -- Cannot figure out how to find it, let alone change it. An electrician was at our home today and couldn't find it. We removed the circular disk at the inside top of the microwave but all that's there is a spinning device, no bulb. Any ideas? Allan

not heating food and has a buzzing noise

  • lmmcg Jan 08, 2009

The light bulbs can be found at Home Depot 120v 20 watt halogen (8 base). I thought that was the problem with my microwave when one of the bulbs blew the lights wouldn't turn off. I replaced the bulbs, but the lights are always on. I was told it would need a new circuit board and that is wouldn't be worth the cost. My microwave is only 2 1/2 years old. Frustrating!

  • jaysgirls Jan 22, 2009

The microwave has been making a buzzing noise.  Today, the power is on and the turntable goes around, but it does not heat.

Help!  I cannot afford a new one!

I have the same problem - it powers on but does not heat food.  Is this an easy fix?  Has somebody had any success with fixing this problem?  Thanks!

same thing- all seems to work, but no heat! Frustrated as it is only a few years old, built in and I have no money to replace now! Can it be a simple fix? THANKS to whomever might help me!

  • nita11111 Mar 14, 2009

I bought a stainless steel G.E. XL1800 Microwave JVM1870SF001 in 2/2003, worked great till now, 3/2009. Everything appears to be working  but food DOES NOT HEAT.  Very dissapointed. Part is still under warranty but I was told it was cheaper to buy new microwave than to pay for  the labor and service fee to fix it.

If your GE microwave DOES NOT HEAT, then the magnetron is probably shot - I have a GE Profile Spacemaker microwave that had this problem....if you are a bit handy, you can do the repair yourself AND GE will ship you a replacement magnetron for FREE, as it is covered for 10 years under the warranty.

See this web site for instructions: http://hubpages.com/hub/GE-Spacemaker-Microwave-Magnetron-Warranty-and-Repair

Hope this helps...saved me several hundred dollars!!!

Need Replacement bulbs for your GE Spacemaker XL 1800? Look inside the door and get the model # that's posted on the left side wall. Then go here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ Enter Model #, you'll get your manual. Go to "Bulbs".

After searching GE's site high and low I finally found some pitifully basic instructions which I've elaborated on here.
Bulb required: Manufactured by Aglaia for GE, 130V 35W Halogen bulb GE #WB08X10051 or equivalent.
There is a grille above the door and clock/cooking controls that extends the width of the unit. You need to remove this to
get to the light receptacle. With the power to the unit off (unplug if you have access to it), get on a chair with a Phillips
head screwdriver. Look down from the top and you will see two screws about 6" in from the ends. If you don't see the
screws, open the cabinet doors above the unit (mine were blocking the screw heads). Remove the screws and set aside.
Pull girlle towards you at the top being careful not to break the tabs at the position where the screws you just removed are
located. After the tabs are out the grille should lift up (there are three hook-tabs along the bottom). Set it aside. Over
toward the right you will see a smaller vertical grille. Just to the left of this there is a void with a Phillips head screw facing
you. Remove the screw from the receptacle tab. Lift up the receptacle tab on the right. When the receptacle is clear on
the right, move the receptacle to the right to release it from the tabs on the left. Lift the receptacle up until it clears the
housing it just came from. Pull it gently toward you, rotate it bottom-toward you, and you will see the bulb to be replaced.
My bulb was lightly held in using white silicone and removed easily by pulling it in the direction it was pointing. A word of
caution about Halogen bulbs: When handling new bulbs be careful not to get any grease on them and handle them with
clean cotton gloves or a clean t-shirt. Grease and oils from even clean hands will cause the bulb to burn out quickly.
Replace the receptacle being careful to make sure the electrical wires are not pinched by the receptacle housing. Replace
the screw; replace the grille; return power to the unit. You're done!
To find the bulb I Googled "General Electric WB08X10051" and "Lamp Halogen WB08X10051" and found options ranging
in price from $8.10 to $10.71 ($13.50 with GE).

Great job explaining how to get to the 'inside' the microwave light bulb. Only note in my case was that when you tried to remove the front panel you had to slide it to the left to release the tabs on the bottom. Also my bulb was held in place with a clip that you had to press on both sides to release. Thank you again for your detailed instructions.

The lights on the bottom of my microwave will not turn off. This started when I changed the bulbs due to the old ones burning out. Anyone ever heard of this? Thank you.

If you put in higher wattage bulbs than designed, your bulbs may have caused the control device (relay contacts/triac/diac) to permanently fail thus allowing the circuit to always remain energized.

How do I replace the light bulb inside the microwave

Usually you have to remove the top cover, then the globe can be changed, cover is held in place by screws, make sure power is off as dangerous high power can harm you, best left to a specialist

It sounds like the main transformer has failed. It would be cheaper to replace the whole microwave than repair this one. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Hope this helps. Good luck.
