John Deere will replace the cap for free; they acknowledge the vendor who supplied Briggs & Stratton gas caps provided faulty caps. Call 1-888-228-3068 then 1 (English), 2, 1 and a technician will ask you for model number and Serial Number (which they need to replace the cap). Don't drill a hole in your cap: debris will find a way into the gas tank and end up possibly fouling the engine. Bob from NJ

I have the John Deere 3300 PSI washer. The unit has the John Deere name but was assembled by Briggs and Stratton and has a Briggs and Stratton engine. I also experienced the engine shut off after the unit ran several minutes. I also found the gas cap was not letting the gas tank vent. I loosened the cap and the engine runs fine.

I don't like leaving the gas cap loose. I am wondering if it might be practical to drill a small vent hole (1/8 inch) in the center of the cap?

This again worked with my pressure washer, a John Deere 3000 PSI. Loosed the gas cap up and it doesn't cut off anymore. Anyone know if putting a hole in the cap would work?

John deere lt133

Engine oil does a couple of things, lubricates and cools. Your crankcase probably takes about 2 qts. Fill it to full and park it over something clean to see if there are leaks.

For your engine to run it needs fuel and air. If the engine is dying, more than likely you have a fuel/air issue. Check your fuel lines for leaks, replace your fuel filter. Clean or replace your air cleaner. Make sure your tank cap can breathe, so air can replace the gas going to the engine.

Won't Stay On

If it's brand new, the first thing I'd check is the oil level in the Honda motor. Most pressure washers are tested then the oil is drained out for shipment. Honda motors have an oil sensor in them that will shut the motor off if the oil level is low. When the motor is off, all the oil is in the bottom of the crankcase and the sensor 'thinks' all's OK. When you start it up and the oil is getting splashed around it will get low enough for the sensor to shut the motor down. Also make sure the gas is turned on at the carburator.

Karcher 2400 psi with honda motor started up big puff of white smoke from exaust it shut off noiw wont start whats going on

I have a john deere 3000psi pressure washer with similar problem. Running fine then a puff of smoke and it shut down. I checked the oil and found it full of water. Not only that but since I still had the water turned on, the water was flowing out of the dip stick tube. I'm trying to find a solution online and will pass any information on.

My John Deere 3000 pressure washer heats up after only a few minutes running and shuts off. This has happened numerous times.

Could be that the motor is low on oil, if the Honda engine runs low on oil it will shut down after running for a couple minutes. I would check that first. If you still have a problem next time before it shuts down take the gas cap off, it is possible that your gas cap is bad and is causing a vapor lock in the tank. Anything other then these items will indicate that something is wrong with the carb.

John Deere 3000psi pressure washer stalling

Mine is having the same issue...I googled and found this with no answers. I'll update if I can find a cure on my own...
Have you checked your oil level?? Small engines have a cut-off switch if your oil is low...mine is topped off so this is not the solution for me..but it could possibly for you.

Pressure washer with 5hp Honda will ONLY run with choke on

It sounds like it has been tipped or too much oil has been put in. This would explain the oil in the air filter. First check the oil level. Then you need to clean the oil out of the carburetor. It is dirty or plugged and that is why it only runs when choked. You can try a spray-in carb cleaner but the best thing is to remove it (if you are handy enough) and soak it in varsol for 24 hours. Good luck

My pressure washer works 4 a while then starts to sputter & dies?

I am going to suggest a tune of of the engine. Change the oil and oil filter. Check the air filter is clean and replace it if it isn't. A new spark plug.

Gx160 Pressure Washer runs fine for 20 seconds Then shuts off

It could be several things...oil level, make sure its sitting on level ground...if not did you use StaBil when you laid her up for the season? If not, go to Advance Auto and buy "SeaFoam" and following directions run it for as long as it will run...make sure you have water running through the pump during tests!
Good Luck
