More than likely you have a bad ignition switch, it sits right behind the selector knob, and has two wires
when you twist it, you basiclly complete a circuit,, sounds like the switch for that burner went bad,,,,
depending on your model it is a reletivley easy fix...
the parts should not run you more than 10.oo
and not take you more than a 1/2 hour
depending on your instalation
goto
www.appliancepartspros.com

type in your model number
it is called an ignitior switch or ignition switch
this site is very good it will also goive you a visual breakdown of how to get to the part
you should be able to take the top right off and gain access to the switch

My hotpoint gas hob ignighter keeps clicking

You have either a bad switch under the knob, or you recently had a power outage or something took out the spark module. You can test each switch for continuety when the switch is closed or 0 ohms on your resistance meter. if these are all reacting fine, then replace the spark module. Oh, and you might want to call a technician on this one. Make sure its unplugged and the gas line is stable. You have to remove all of the burners to get the top off. GL

Igniter doesn't spark on only one burner

There are three parts to the ignition system typically.

The ignitor that is either in the burner or outside the burner.

The spark ignitor switch that is located on the burner control. (( one for each control ))

The spark modual. the modual creates the hi-voltage spark.

If the burner that does not ignight with its control does not spark but does spark with one of the other controls then the spark ignitor control switch is bad.
You can test it with one of the other burner control knobs. (( just try a working burnder and when it clicks look at the bad burners ignitor and look for the spark.))

If the bad burner that wont ignight does not spark then either your modual is bas or the ignitor is shorting out.

If you see any little spark but it does not spark from point A to Point B like the other burners then your ignitor is shorting and should be replaced.

If your ignitor is ceramic and it is cracked, then it should be replaced.

Burner only cooks on high heat.

You need the switch for that burner. The contacts inside are stuck together. You will need to pull the unit and separate the glass from the lower body to access it. To get the right switch you need full model and serial number located on a plate at the bottom of the unit.

Your ability to perform this is dependent on how mechanical you are. The Whole unit must be removed from the counter opening and the base unscrewed from the glass, remove knobs before disassembling. For someone mechanical this is not difficult. De-energize whole unit first.

Once the two pieces are separated the remainder is mechanically easier. Disassemble the box on right containing the switches and replace the correct one. Reverse the process for reassembly. Good Luck
