I have acquired a Samsung hlr5667w that won't turn on. Lamp and ballast are both good. When the tv tries to turn on the lamp never lights which tells me the ballast. But the ballast was tested in another tv and worked fine. What controls the ballast on the power board that might have broken?
I also have a hlp5063w that's doing the same thing and both the Ballast and Lamp on it have been checked. The only thing different on the 50in is it sounds too quiet when I try and turn it on. Fans work, but the lamp doesn't light.
Any light blink on the front. Whats the voltage to the ballast from the power supply. Common problem on these sets are bad lamp door switch. Try shorting the switch. Color wheel also is problematic but usually will be noisy and cause shut down. Check power board for swollen capacitors. Hope this helps
Check the flex cable from the color wheel to make sure it is plugged in correctly. The contacts are on one side of the flex cable. I plugged on in backwards once and it would not turn on. If thats ok replaced the power supply. About the capacitor on the ballast. Samsung had a problem with lamp failure and indicated that if the large cap on the ballast was swollen the replaced ballast and power supply. If it's not swollen not to worry. Check flex cable to color wheel . if won't fire and lamp and ballast are ok replace power supply.Be sure all wires are plugged in every where.

Well I ended up breaking the color wheel on accident as it just wouldn't seem to fit back in it's spot. Forunately I put everything back together and everything is good, just no color. The wheel had scrathes on it like it might have been jammed in there previously.

I shorted the switch, but that wasn't the problem. I also found no swollen capacitors. From my experience with Mitsubishi Rear Projection Tv's capacitors don't have to be swollen to be faulty. Isn't there like an ESR meter that will help determine if a capacitor is good or not? Anyway, when it turns on I only hear 2 fans running. After I unplugged both of those it was pretty much silent. This color wheel is not jammed and I took it out and put it back in with ease. The previous owner said he replaced the color wheel and the lamp and then gave up. I also know that the ballast is good. What powers the color wheel? Since it's only connected to that silver box in front of it, I guess that's where it comes from. But in the end the tv tries 3 times to turn on followed by the 3 blinking lights on the front.
I've got a friend who has the same model hlp5063w, so I can try the Power Supply from his a see if the fixes the problem. If not the power supply, what would you guess next?
