Hello,

Going back to the security location will unlock the unit but in order to reset the pin code, the original pin code must be input.
To unlock the unit, it must be sent back to Garmin.

If you have a PIN number on your device you will have been asked to set a security location. When you are at your security location or within approximately 50 metres of your security location the device will unlock without the PIN number.

Garmin Pin codes are accessed ( when forgotten) By taking it back to the coordinates that it was first set. You would know where you were when you set the pin code. So just mosey on back there and once in place access your unit and reset the code.

There is no master code, that process IS the master code access

not worth it, as the cost will exceed the unit value as the 310 series is obsolete, get a new one on ebay

What you have to do when you forget your PIN code is to drive to the secure location that you chose when you initially set the PIN and it will unlock itself. I'm not sure how one can change a PIN accidentally without selecting a secure location. If you forget the PIN and the secure location you have no other choice but to return the unit to Garmin to be unlocked.

Hi I personally don't know the code, however you can visit www.garmin.com and there is a support area and you can also download manuals, its easy to use site and very helpful, there is a tech support area also and im very sure they can resolve this easy enough for you and get you up and running again.
