My faberware percolator is very seldom used and this morning after perculating the coffee. It poured out almost clear water. I have also noticed that the coffee is not as hot as original. I have had it only about 6 months

depends on how many cups of coffee you want. if you want 22 cups, suggest 1 1/2 cup of coffee.

USING YOUR PERCOLATOR
1.Wash the Percolator thoroughly before using for the first time.
(See "Cleaning Instructions" section in this manual.)

2.Remove Cover, Basket, Spreader and Pump Tube. Use cold, fresh
tap water to fill Percolator. Fill according to markings on inside
of Percolator for number of cups desired. Use cold tap water -
the automatic brewing cycle is timed to begin with a cold
water start.
NOTE: The bottom of the Pump Tube Spring marks the maximum
capacity of the Percolator.

3.Wet Coffee Basket to help keep small particles of coffee from sift-
ing through. Place Basket on Pump Tube. Add desired amount of
regular or percolator grind coffee to Basket.

4.Place Pump Tube with Basket into Percolator so bottom of tube is
set into Center Well. Place Spreader on top of Basket and snap
Cover onto Percolator. Attach cord to Percolator and plug into
standard household 120 volt AC wall outlet. Brewing begins
within seconds and continues at a cup-a-minute speed

5.When coffee brewing is complete, percolating will stop. The
Percolator automatically switches to "KEEP WARM" setting to
preserve fresh-tasting coffee at hot, ready-to-serve temperature.
For best flavor, remove Coffee Basket, Spreader and Pump Tube
when brewing is completed.

There is a thermostat in the bottom of the percolator that is broken. It would normally cut off the percolator heating element after the water reaches a certain temperature but it is broken. It can be replaced but it takes a little skill. There is a video on eBay.

It should be about 180 degrees. The percolator should perc about one minute for each cup of coffee. If it stops too soon and the water is not hot, then the thermostat is bad. The thermostat can be replaced.

Bunn Home brewers don't perculate. They work the same way that commercial brewers do. Fillit with water, let it heat for about 20 minutes, then put your filter and coffee grounds in the funnel, pour a pot of water into the machine, put the pot on the warmer, and let the water run through. Then enjoy a nice hot cup of coffee.

Hi Sharon. ALL Farberware coffee pots make racket. You have a pot that is made in China. When the water is hot the noise stops and it goes into keepwarm mode. As long as your water is hot 175 to 185 it is good. If you were trying to make coffee and you are not perking through the basket is another case.When you want to make coffee you MUST use the cone spring in the pump.That keeps the pump tight so the hot water goes up the pump. Check the spring under the grounds basket on the pump tube. This is supposed to hold the end of the tube down in the heater well. It should compress when the lid is pushed down on the basket and twisted to lock in under the handles.  I have found a good source of parts for Faberware urns and percolators at goodmans.net. The thermostats and heating elements can be easily replaced and the urn returned to original condition. Rich of Colorado

Thanks for letting us know that there was no solution other than one I would have to come up with entirely on my own. My dad who is old school wouldn't let me give up so we took the thing apart and it was an easy fix. Take the 5/16 nut off the bottom. Pull the slide pins off the thermostat. Take the philips screw out of the support holding the thermostat in place. Use a sharp pointed knife and with the silver Aluminum cap flat on the bench, make a slice on one edge. Use the knife to pull the edge away from the plastic housing and the cap will pop off. Be careful not to loose the small piece of ceramic that lies in a small whole on top of the contact. Use a sharp knife to clean the contacts and check with an ohms meter or continuity light. If it makes a good contact, put it back together. It took my dad and me about 10 minutes to do the entire job. We looked for a part for 20 minutes. Good luck. Rick and Adam Schmitt of Maryland.
