Linda .....no its not the lamp thats causing the whirring/buzzing sound but the colour wheel, its housed in the light engine you will need to replace the whole light engine cos the inbuilt colour wheel is worn out this causes the buzz hence the lamp may not light up or u may have shut downs flickers on the pix or color issues

The problem is the light tunnel is collapsing. This is a VERY common issue with the Samsung/Akai DLP TV's. It is four mirrors used to transfer the light after it passes the color wheel to the DMD board. When part of it collapses the grey bar that you are seeing is the end result. This is a part that usually requires a technician to replace as there is a little tear down of the light engine itself and you would be handling delicate parts. Replace Lamp and CK both Fans to make sure they are running.If Fan behind Lamp does not run TV will not light LAMP.

hey there is sounds like your tv is trying to tell you to replace the lamp
the lamp is running out of mercury gas and is starting do give up I recommend you get a new bulb

the back cover is not on the TV correctly. on the back cover there is a safety switch so that the lamp light is not exposed. The lamp emits radiation and UV rays. Not healthy.

was the lamp blown if it was blown you could be hearing the ballast
if the lamp was not blown and the new one did not fix it the red light indicates the door there is a little switch when you put the door back on if you look at it it may need to be adjusted so it will connect with the door if that is not it you could have a fan that is not turn if it is making a real loud constant humming noise while it trying to fire the lamp you probably have a bad color wheel

I think i have the solution to your problem,
I think that the lamp has gone out in your tv. You should try changing it out. I work with many tv's with DLP's and it almost always is the lamp. YOu can order it online, there is a slot on the side of the tv were you can change it out through there, the lamp should have a number on it. And its pretty simple to do. So there you go..and I could have gotten you a better deal on your Tv.

check for popped or raised tops on caps in power supply. also try unplugging set for 5 minutes and resetting it. How about does your color wheel spin up? if your color wheel don't startup then your tv will also shut down. also check all fans they all should be running at turn on. if all fails i would say its your light engine.
