UMB DISK BROKEN

Hi,

Try the following procedure to format the unit.
Step 1:
Remove the battery from the left side of the PSP while it is still on. The unit will power down instantly. Wait ten seconds and then replace the battery.

Step 2:
Press both clear shoulder buttons at the top of the PSP and keep them held while the PSP reboots. A "Recovery" mode will be initiated.

Step 3:
Press down on the control pad to locate a "recovery" folder. This will contain all of your PSP content, including games, music, videos and podcasts that are saved on the device. Highlight this folder and press the "X" button to begin reinstalling your content.

DO NOT REMODE THE CD FROM THE SMALL PLASTIC COVER.
It is supposed to be there. It fits directly into the psp.

maybe its battery ran out or something?

it might be that you need to update your firmware.

as newer games come out, they require features unlocked in the PSP.
the update of the PSP firmware usually lets you play newer software.

if the PSP loads the disk ok, goto the games XMB menu, and goto the option below UMB Disc.
It should say something like PSP™ Update ver. #.##

possible you're not getting the card in all the way , the door isn't supposed to hold it in , it just covers it , you almost need to use a fingernail to get it in all the way , it goes way in and you will feel a click when it locks. hope ya get it.

If the PSP that you bought is pre-owned... then..

..bring it back to 'Gamestop' & tell them truthfully that the PSP you bought doesn't play UMDs.

.. maybe there're problem's with the UMDs? Are they pre-owned?

If the PSP is brand new when you bought it, you can claim for FREE repairs, or perhaps a replacement from SONY! Mostly warrantys are just 1yr period, so you better 'do what you have to do' before Christmas!

When you insert a UMD into the PSP, then what happens? What appears on the screen?

- Do you hear the UMD drive spinning for quite awhile, but not loading up under the Game column?

sounds like you purchased a bricked or bad unit , return it or try to get your money back. If from ebay file a complaint.

After you put the UMD in, you should be able to see a umd icon in the game section. Otherwise, you might have put the umd up side down or something.

Becareful as you might damage the umd optical lens.

my son's psp 1001 sony brand will turn on and charge we bought a new battery for it, but when he trys to play a game it won't run it will start to turn the disc then it will stop and the umd symbol don't even show up in the game catagories i need help to fix it..
