"F1" error code on Magic Chef gas range Model 3488XRA

When you plug the stove in , the clock display starts beeping and displays error code "F1" and doesn't stop until you unplug the unit. If you plug in again you get the same error.

On a diagnostic web site I found the following information: "F1" error means either (1) Watchdog on board or (2) touch membrane defective.

- What do these mean?
- Is there any inexpensive solution to this problem? CAn anything be disconnected so that the stove works properly without getting the errer?

My Magic Chef is probably 15-20 years old. It has, for no apparent reason, started beeping and flashing F1 error code. Pushing the "clear" button stops it momentarily and sometimes for hours, but tonight it started at midnight and has been doing it ever sense. HELP! How do I make it stop?

When I turn on my oven I get an F1 code after about ten minutes, and the oven stops heating. Any advice would be appreciated.

The oven will heat up and then shut off and start beeping. It flashes an F1 error.

The burners on my magic chef stove work but the flame is not as high as it should be on one burner. I switched the top of the burner with another and it did not solve the problem.

Error Code F1 displays once in a while. What does it mean?

How to test many brands of Ranges that are flashing a F1 fault code: You have either a bad ERC (clock) or a bad touch pad.
1. Disconnect power to stove
2. Gain access to the back of the clock (electronic range control or ERC).
3. Unplug the touch pad ribbon connector from the ERC. This will be a flat wire approx. 1 1/2" to 2" wide.
4. Make sure everything is clear and will not short out when power is turned back on.
5. Turn power back on to stove.
6. Watch for the F1 and listen for the beep.
7. If you get the F1 and beep, replace the ERC.
8. If after approx. 30 minutes you do NOT get the F1 and hear the beep, replace the touch pad.

* ERC - Electronic Range Control

NOTE: Some models incorporate the touch pad and the clock as one part.

Hope helps.

Beepng and error code F 1

Hi

Error code F1 means a faulty keypad or connection problem with the keypad. You will need to check the connections of the keypad with the main board. Pressing Start/Cancel key may temporariliy resolve the issue, however, to resolve the issue you might need to change the keypad if the wiring to the keypad seems ok.

1. Disconnect power to oven.

If it still shows as F1 then you'll need to replace the keypad.

Hope it helps...

What does F1 mean when appearing in the digital display area accompanied by beeping? This is appearing repeatedly every few hours even when stove not in use.

Hello, this indicates a ERC/clock electronic range control fault.
Check or replace the touch pad or clock. The touch pad is a more common problem for this unit. Check for a stuck button by pressing each one and feeling for it retracting. This is easy to replace.
Thanks

My kenmore oven is beeping and will not stop. the display shows F-1.

Please use the chart to determine which stove you have. You will have to look at the model number. The first 3 numbers will be the series on the chart. In most cases an F1 error would require replacment of the electronic control. This part is commonly refered to as an EOC or ERC. However this type of repair is usually reserved for repair specialists.

KENMORE Range/Stove/Oven Fault Codes – 362 Series (General Electric)
F1 = Stuck Touch Pad Key - Replace Electronic Range Control (ERC).

    KENMORE - 911 Series (General Electric/Roper)
F0-F1-FF = Failed transistor in Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE Range/Stove/Oven Fault Codes- 665 Series (Whirlpool)
F1-E0 EPROM Error - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E1 EPROM Error - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
F1-E2 U/L ERC Errors - Electronic Range Control (ERC).
    F1-E3 Fuel Type Fail

    Kill power 30 seconds-Cancel-Start/Enter-5 seconds-Should see “E” for electric-
“9” for gas-If code changes again-replace Electronic Range Control (ERC).

KENMORE - 790 Series Electronic Oven Control (Frigidaire)
F1 = Shorted Touch Pad = Electronic Range Control (EOC) Internal checksum error.
Runaway Temp = Replace Electronic Oven Control (EOC).

Kill power 30 seconds - if error returns - replace Electronic Oven Control (EOC).
