check the blower wheel sometimes objects get caught in it not allowing it to spin. If it is clean open the dryer door push and hold the door switch and push start while it is humming rotate the drum. if it starts to spin then you need a new motor it will run you probably 150 - 200 dollars
try and turn the drum by hand at the same time you are trying to start the dryer if it runs then you have a problem with you motor it may be dirty with lint and needs to be cleaned or the start windings have gone bad and needs to be replaced
It is the motor winding shorted out which caused the smell. If you still have your old dryer the safty thermal located on the exhaust housing is blown. White plastic with 2 wires going to it. Very inexpensive repair. Hope this helps.
First of all check your door switch, make sure it is operational. If the door switch checks good, the start switch could be faulty, in
newer dryers the start switch is built into the timer in older
dryers your start switch may be seperate, if you have to push on the
timer dial to start the dryer, its built into the timer.
Check any other safteys that may be stuck open.Double check anyway. If it wont do anything, I would say
its the door switch or the start switch.
if you push the start and it just humms it is a bad dryer motor to weak to kick on,to confirm this have sombody hold the dryer door button in and turn the drum when you push the start button,if it jump starts you know it's a bad motor-mike
at leas 15 yrs old??? think it's done its time, its a great machine andwould reccomend replacing with a whirlpool/kenmore unit again.no tworth servicing in my opinion, average call here in new york 150-225, anbd those are for simple issues. id rather put money into new unit! bit be sure to check your venting id say 85% of dryers taking too long to dry are vent related issues
