is it completely dark or just very dim or dark on one side? if it's just dark on one side, you have a failing LCD panel, very common for older Samsung panels. If it is completely black on one side split down the middle, you could be dealing with a bad panel, bad t-con board, or a faulty LCD panel ribbon connection.
Try using the monitor in a regular computer using a VGA cable.. If it stays on, then ur monitor is good.. If it does the same thing.. Bad backlight.. Not worth fixing
is it a laptop? because if it is, when you open it you should hear a click, if you dont hear a click he screen will be black, so you keep opening and closing it till it clicks, if not a laptop, please explain more.
does the fan work ok? and do you have a laptop holder for it or you just have it on a desk ....get a laptop holder for it if you do not have one and as for the rest goto the power mangment area on the computer and see if the monitor might be on stand by after a few min ...
