I have a dgl-4300 wireless router and I mainly use it for Xbox live. I used to have a different firmware but it became incompatible with live so i downgraded to 1.6 so i could play games online. Well it used to download fine on wireless but now it wont even download unless i hardwire the system. I used to have wep security but now i have wpa, whats the deal? My only guess is the firmware but im not to sure about it...

I'm just looking to update the DGL-3420 and update my DGL-4300 router (they were not in use for the past year) having some connection issues

DGL-3420 Firmware & DGL-4300 Firmware
Please visit the above links from DLink Official Support for your products. Firmware updates, Manuals, trouble-shootong guides etc are available. If you are experiencing connection issues, i would suggest that review the router settings before going for firmware updates. Most of the times the connection issues are due to settings only.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

I just bought a D link dgl 4500 router and it works fine most of the time. Tonight and one other night before it will reset my wireless network almost every five minuets. I have reset both the modem and...

Make sure you have the latest firmware as this might help with your dropped connections. Also try to make a DHCP Reservation for each computer connected to your network (p. 32 in the User Manual), as that can also help prevent dropped connections.

Download the latest firmware ver. 1.23NA to your local computer. Connect your DGL-4500 router via a wired connection (ethernet) to your computer and install the firmware update following instructions in the user manual.

Firmware link:
ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Gateway/dgl4500/firmware/dgl4500_FW_123NA.zip

Here is the PDF link to the User Manual:

I have a D-Link DGL 4500 wireless router. I have

If you don't see any devices connected in the DHCP client list on the router interface even when you are sure of the devices being connected, only a firmware update or a re-flashing of firmware can help. You can find the latest firmware available on the d-link support site. You can verify the model and version numbers and download the corresponding firmware. This is only fix.

Secure network

The best thing is to take it to Geek Squad to have them configure it. They have a fee but it will be easiest.

If not,

Open Internet Explorer or Firefox, Type in either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.100.

Select where it says wireless, select WAP 2.
Set a password.
Save.
Restart.

Make sure your computer recognizes the settings to. Go to wireless settings on your computer and change them to the same as above. Let me know if you need further information.

How do i hook cables to download new firmware into my dgl-4500 from computer to router

  1. I assume you downloaded the newest firmware (version 1.21NA) from this site.
  2. Save or move it on your desktop so it's easier to find.
  3. Connect your router to your computer with an Ethernet cable.(If you're not sure what it looks like, see here.)
Do not upgrade the firmware over a wireless connection!

On the same page, look at the FAQ's. there is an entry called "How do I upgrade the firmware on my DGL-4100/DGL-4300/DGL-4500?" It is a description of the upgrade process itself and will walk you through the steps.

I'm just amazed that they miss a really important warning. Do not unplug your router or close the browser on your computer until this process is finished. This can render your router useless and you will have a nice, expensive doorstop.
When the upgrade process starts, go have a coffee, do your dishes, whatever, but: Leave the router and your computer alone! Wait until the router's reboot is completely finished.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.
