There are special partitions on the hard drive that are recovery partitions and they say what software can be and what will boot on the system. Since your laptop came with Vista, this partition has to be deleted for you to be able to use this disc on another computer or if you want to change the operating system to something else then what it came with from the factory. Below are the steps to take to enable this.

EISA Partition Delete

1. Open a command prompt as administrator.
2. Run Diskpart application by typing Diskpart in the command prompt.
3. In the “Diskpart” prompt, enter rescan command and press Enter key to re-scan all partitions, volumes and drives available.
4. Then type in list disk and press Enter key to show all hard disk drive available.
5. Select the disk that contains the partition you want to remove. Normally, with just 1 hard disk, it will be disk 0. So the command will be:
select disk 0
Finish by Enter key.
6. Type list partition and press Enter key to show all available and created partition in the disk selected.
7. Select the partition that wanted to be deleted by using the following command, followed by Enter key:
select partition x
where x is the number of the EISA based recovery partition to be removed and unlocked its space. Be careful with the number of this partition, as wrong number may get data wipes off.
8. Finally, type in delete partition override and press Enter key.
Once the partition has been deleted, exit from Diskpart, and now users can use the much familiar and much easier Disk Management tool in Windows (diskmgmt.msc) to manipulate the freed unallocated partition. Users can create a new volume (partition) with this space, or simply merge it to existing partition by extending the size of the existing partition.

Invalid disk system will not leave screen

that error happens when you have a nonbooteable unit inserted or when your OS master boot record gets damage and the bios doesn't find the OS boot up loader.

check in the bios the boot order settings

usually is like this

1 - Floppy
2 - Cdrom
3 - HardDisk
4 - Network

there can be more options but those 4 are what we care now. change the order in what the system checks for a boot media

like this

1 - Cdrom
2 - Harddisk
=============== place any other device in any other after # 2

If you still get the message then make sure that you laptop has a OS installed ( if it has one already) then try to repair the MBR (master boot record) using the os install cd and the recovery console ( applies to Windows XP, Vista, 7 ).

Otherwise Install a operative system in the laptop and that should take care of the message.

Dear sir, I purchased a new laptop compaq presario c700. When I tried to install os it is booting from cd but it is not recognising harddisk. I checked in BIOS but I didn't find the option where to find...

If the BIOS cannot detect the hard drive, then it could faulty.
If this laptop is new, then it is still under warranty, take it back to the supplier for a warranty repair or a replacement.
If you try to repair it, you may void your warranty.

Hard disk Recognition problem

U are actually facing the same problem as "jackwilkinso". As my previous post: Windows XP does not come out to support SATA hard drive, because inside do not inclued the SATA driver, that why u cannot see the harddisk during the setup. What u can do is try to install the SATA supported OS like Windows Vista or Windows 7, or maybe can "forcely" put in the SATA driver in ur Windows XP setup CD.

I can't downgrade Vista to Xp

You can install windows XP.

First go to BIOS and change sata mode to IDE mode
or option to disable SATA Native mode

then choose mode to IDE or disable SATA Native mode
then install windows XP

If there is no option about change sata mode in BIOS.
You should insert ahci driver to Windows XP CD using nLite

read this
http://komku.blogspot.com/2007/11/integrate-driver-into-windows.html
you can use this driver
http://cahya.prastyanto.googlepages.com/driver-sata-ahci-4920.zip

Or you can install windows by inserting driver when setup prompted

To install Windows XP with native SATA driver, perform the following steps:

Boot the notebook PC.

Insert the Windows XP installation CD into the optical CD/DVD drive.

Press the F6 key when prompted

Press the S key to specify the additional device.

Insert the SATA driver disk into drive A. (using floppy disk drive)

Follow the on-screen prompts.

Or if both way is cannot be done

i have the third way

use an unattended XP installation disk
you can download it from here:
http://fenopy.com/torrent/Windows_xp_sp3_5512_cdr_october_2008_with__sata_raid_/MTU2MTEzMA==/index.html
after you download
burn the CD image to the CD/DVD
then install XP using that CD/DVD

Install xp in compaq presario c700

The hard disk may be set to Enhanced AHCI SATA mode. Look for Legacy or IDE mode setting in BIOS menu options.
XP SP2 does not recognise Enhanced SATA mode hard disks.
see http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/10/23/windows-xp-setup-could-not-detect-and-find-any-sata-hard-disk-drive-on-ahci-mode/
You may be able to use NLite to make a CD which has correct SATA drivers.
