No sounds from rear speakers..... Yamaha HTR-5650

Hi! Check page 19 and forward in the manual https://docs.sony.com/release/strde945.pdf It explains what parameters to set depending on your speakers. I cannot answer directly because I dont' know the speakers :) On page 22 there is a good procedure for adjusting the speaker volume using the test tone. Good luck and let me know if it helps!

The front channels have a separate protection circuit from the rears and sub sections. It is possible that the unit i is not turning on the fronts. Without seeing the unit and testing some parts, I can't state for sure either the problem or solution. Can you provide more history? Did this just happen out of the blue?

configure ur PC (both OS audio and third party sound driver) for surround sounds. control panel- sounds and audio devices - speaker settings - advanced - speker settings. so this done. make sure u select the 6 input channel - the button is on the right edge near the volume knob. near the vol button there are two buttons for selecting input type with up down arrow. from that u can select the input type this will be indicated on the top front indicator. but with the 6 input channel selected all selections are preceeded. if u select stereo mode u will have left/ right audio only.
make sure u connect the input right. connect from computer to 6 channel input. main, surround, center and sub-woofer.  connect the spekers to main (L/R), rear(surround) (L/R), center and sub woofer to terminal marked sub woofer ouput. this done select like i said before the 6 channel button. that should do it.

is there a switch in the back for surround on/off

Check that you set it to Pro logic and check the speaker set-up. Set it to 5.1 Sounds like somthing is in the wrong setting.

Front and center speakers connected correctly and test sound works fine. Center speaker icon does not show on front panel of receiver (except during test) and i get no sound.

Did you try the A/B switch?

You should try to increase with remote of your yamaha the sound level for sub.In my Pioneer receiver I can increase level from minus 10 to plus 10 DB

MAKE SHURE YOU HAVE TOLD THE AMP YOU HAVE A SUB IN THE SET UP MENU UNDER SPEAKER SETTINGS.
IFF YOU ARE USEING SMALL SPEAKERS THEN SET THIS IN THE MENU AND OUT PUT BASS 2 SUB ONLY ,SET XOVER ON AMP IFF U CAN 2 120HTZ, ALSO CHECK THAT YOU HAVE THE SUB CABLE PLUGED INTO SUB OUT ON BACK OF YOUR AMP ,AND NOT THE 6 CHANNEL INPUT.
