Replacing an RL-70 with an RL 70-CRC

I currently have an RL70 radar/chartplotter, circa later 1998 or early 1999. The unit is monochrome and working perfectly. I have always wanted to update the unit to a color chartplotter, i.e. the RL70-CRC. I Atheny unit is out of production, however, there are a few for sale out there. The question is: I have only been seeing the "Plus" model, and would like to know if this will directily replace my monochrome unit. I mean plug for plug-in swap? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year!

I just bought a SeaRay with the RL70 radar/chartplotter combo and would like to upgrade to the RL70-CRC without re-inatallation. Is this possible. The unit is a 2002 version.

I did exactly what you wish to do a couple of years ago. It was a 5 minute job, cut out the same except the new unit needs a little more space behind and it was a plug for plug swap. Works great and swaps data between the matching chart plotter to give chart overlay on the radar

Whistler 1610. How many bands does it have?

Just like every radar detector made since early 90's - X, K, Ka radar bands and laser. Now there are laser pulses of the newer laser guns that the 1610 wasn't designed for so it won't pick them up but on the radar side its current.

Connect Ratheon RL 70 to Raymarine E80

The two devices can share Nav data only. No radar, Sonar or Chart will be shared.
Hook the RL70 and the E80 together on SeaTalk and all data will be shared both ways. Alternatively, it could be done with NMEA 0183, which is directional, or you could also translate the RL70 data to NMEA 2000 and share it that way. As long as you have all Raymarine equipment, you are home free using a three wire Seatalk connection, with only two hooked up, Yellow and Bare, color to color.
Remember, this will share Nav Data only.

I am not picking up objects on my screen until I am right on them. Tried tilting the radar dome down foward to see if this would work to no avail. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

depending on the type of boat you currently have it mounted on, you may be out of range. Also your radar may need tuning and make sure your rain and seaclutter is not too high. Make sure the rain clutter is off. If the radar is mounted on a sailboat and you're having this problem, it's most likely the height unless it worked before in which case it could either be the display or the radar components. Magnetrons which run the radar also have a life.

I have Entrega hub 4U circa 1998. Warning "too high current draw.....will disable usb port 2007 duo core imac using OS 10.5.6. can I use this device or is it incompatible? Still works fine on 1998 ima

its just warning you that the hub is sapping too much power from the imac, newer hubs are only a couple of $$ and are much more power efficient, try somewhere like dealextreme.com

Raytheon rl70

I've had the same problem. before replacing the antenna, try to reset the antenna by removing power to the Raystar 120. Disconnect power by either turning off all batteries or disconnecting the red wire from the antenna at the point where it enters the junction box for the chartplotter. This action effectively removes all memory from the antenna and resets it to factory settings. There is a lithianium battery in GPS antenna that holds memory data in the antenna. Disconnecting the power to the antenna for a few seconds clears the memory.

This is exactly what I did and when I turned the chartplotter back on, my Raystar 120 immediately began working again.
