Either there is bulging capacitors on the main power board,or the Y Board lower is faulty. If the entire screen was black I would lean toward the Y Main Board,or if the upper half was black then i would say the Y Buffer upper board is defective.

I have the top half of a screen the Bottom half is black, how do I fix this?

If the problem is same with different input devices and you have ensured the are no loose contacts in power outlet, RC jack, cable and sockets, the TV needs servicing.

My plasma screen goes black on bottom 1/2 of the screen

In most cases the lower Y-Buffer board causes this issue. Unless you know how to work on a TV it is suggested that you have a technician look at the TV and repair it for you.

Phillips 42 inch Plasma -Screen Issues!!!

intermittent loss of picture on either bottom or top half of screen is specific to y buffer boards located on left side of screen going from top to bottom when looking at back of tv. the y lower buffer would be the board to replace to resolve the loss of bottom half of picture. if the top half also is going out intermittently could tied to upper buffer as well but just a note the y main board to right of these buffers drives those two boards so in some cases could also be part of the problem. if only bottom half is affected i would recommend replacing lower buffer only

42" Philips plasma screen goes black

You have a Ysus problem. Sounds like a cold solder joint or loss connections on ysus main board.

Top half of screen blacks out

Today, after speaking to the Sansui Manufacturer representative from Japan. He stated that all you need to do is to turn off the closed caption from the TV remote and not the DVR remote. Black screen can occur at the top half or the bottom half of the screen depending on how it was originally setup during installation. Try this and hopefully this fixes the problem.
