Hello I have had my phone for a little under a year. I have not any problems with my phone up until yesterday. After I had finished a phone call I placed the phone back on the charger and realized no phone calls had been coming in; I then looked at the phone and it says out of range. I have no clue what this means or how to go about to fix it, so I'm hoping you can help me out. Thank you!
Do you have power to the base? I've seen this message on several cordless phones if the base is unplugged, the power brick has failed or the power adapter was plugged into a power strip (or surge protector) that has been turned off. It can also happen if the circuit breaker for that outlet has tripped.
First check that the power adapter is plugged into an outlet and the other end is plugged into the base. If the power brick is cold, check that the outlet has power by plugging in a different device (like a lamp) and turning that device on. If there is power, than you need to replace the power adapter or the entire phone (if you can't match the amperage output of the adapter). If there is no power at the outlet and the adapter is plugged directly into the wall outlet, check your circuit breaker for that outlet.
If you used a power strip or surge protector, check if it is on. For a surge protector, check if the surge protection circuit light is on. Replace bad surge protector.
I hope this helps.

(I have seen someone intentionally turn off a surge protector during an extended power outage and then fail to turn it back on after power returned. The individual forgot that they had turned things off before they called for assistance with their phone.)

Make certain that the phone line cable is plugged securely into the base unit in the back. Disconnect it and re-insert it into the connector firmly. That should do it if the battery pack has been sufficiently charged.....12-16 hours should do it for the initial charge. Of course, you can't ecxpect it to find the base unit if it is 2 miles away, under a metal box! Just kidding!!

as with all devices which return to base for charging, the life of the re-chargeable batteries is shortened if it is constantly trickle-charged, so as with a moble phone, it is good to sometimes let it run down completely and re-charge as the battery charge will last longer, batteries are like muscles, they need excercise.

sometimes if you let the phone charge run down it will cut off in the middle of a call

was there a storm ie electrical try unplugging the main set and see if the busy line goes away if it does you can try unplugging them from the electric for while and then replug them to see if this reset them if the busy line return it appears the phone(s) are done
