I have a Magnavox 51MP392H/17 Rear projection TV. about 2 months ago the color start to merge into each other and showing double. I would cut the TV off...wait a few minutes then turn it back on and the picture would be good again. Now turning the TV off and on no longer works. It's always jumbled up with only green and red colors and picture is doubled. Someone told me that I must've had a maganet near it that caused this issue. Can you help me understand what's wrong and can it be fixed please.

Yes its repairable
its a convergence circuit failure there are a couple ics and most likely some resistors that will need replacing and possibly a pico fuse

est 300 to 340 you mention only red and green though do you not have blue in your picture
id bet the blue is non exsistant and will need a blue liquid kit changed to correct that problem also

you might want to conatact a local servicer and give a model and ask them what they woud do both for then you can make a decision if you want to do it or not

If it looks anything like the picture (3D etc) it will need the "Convergence circuit" repaired.

Let me know if you have questions.

My tv is a magnavox and we bought it about 3 years ago and it is now showing like a double picture the color is hazy and pinkish looking the model is 51MP392H/17

The problem of your unit is the convergence. Try to adjust it using the original remote control in the setting menu, then goto the convergence section adjust the red and blue convergence, you should move red and blue UP, DOWN and LEFT or RIGHT, if you cannot move them far enough the convergence IC is defective, replacing this IC will restore the original setting of your tv. This convergence IC is attach to a large aluminum plate it is the heat sink this IC has a marking of STK-#### followed by numbers, remember be careful when replacing this IC you may accidentally tampered or damage the PCB and cause much damage to your unit. Or you can contact a technician to do it for you and save you from stress good day and best regards. Try to check this link for the convergence http://www.google.com.ph/search?q=convergence+ic&hl=tl&sa=X&tbm=isch&prmd=ivns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&biw=798&bih=472&ech=1&psi=JZdtTvDCPIe4iAe72sTABA.1315804977740.3&emsg=NCSR&noj=1&ei=MpdtTpa4OKKSiQfBpcjGBA

51mp392H/17...bowing and color alignment off

Take the TV to a repair shop. It sounds like the convergence chips are bad. Be sure they change them as a pair or you'll wind up with the same problem again.

Philips Magnavox Rear Projection 51mp392h color adjustment

Hello, below in my post is a link to the Manual library. there are detailed instructions on how to adjust the color. it takes time and some steps are difficult but using two people you should have no problem just print them out and go step by step... also I suggest doing it at night with low lights or off, and let the TV warm up for 20 mins.

Good luck, below is my general post with lots of info

51MP392H/17

Actually I have this TV and you need 2 Convergence IC's STK392-120's (120's and 150's will work) of course order 2 of the same type I'm using replacement 150's they allow for a little higher heat and were cheaper ALSO you need to replace the 12 resistors with 6.8 ohm metal film resistors, make sure they are metal film! don’t skimp out here I did and then they blew and fried my IC's and I had to replace everything again!

Great reference link that I posted pictures on, check out page 3

Where I got all my parts that worked:
Suburban Electronics http://www.suburban-elect.com/

Manual Library you should find all you need here:

What you need:
(2) STK392-120 OR STK392-150 IC chips
(12) 6.8 Ohm Metal Film resistors
set of star screw drivers
15 watt pencil solder pencil, DO NOT use a high watt iron you will fry the surface mounted item.
good leaded solder, and flux

BTW if you don’t plan on trying this and are going to throw out the TV, I still need a IC convergence board for a 51MP392H/17 TV I'm fixing, I'm willing to pay S/H and buy your IC board that’s not been tampered with. [email protected]

Philips rear projection tv-wont turn on

Sounds like your Convergence chips failed, were your red/blue/green colors slowly seperating or was the picture starting to curve on the top or bottom or both? if so see below general post.
Also what model # is your TV and what size?

60" Rear Projection TV

sounds like a convergence chip problem...

here is my general post for the 51 inch you'll have to look at the link for the manual and check to see if you have the STK392-120 chips or somthing bigger in the 60"
