Cannon imageclass mf5550 troubleshooting

We have a canon imageclass mf5550 and are having printing/copying problems. The problem is that the paper will get jammed every time i print. In troubleshooting the problem, it seems as though it is only ever other time if I am "copying" by using the page by page image platform on the top (lifting the top and inserting a page one at a time). If i use the automatic feed on the top, it will jam because it is running two pages together and says that the image is too big. Also when I use it as a printer directly from my computer (usb) it jams every time. I have taken the tray out and back in, trying to see if the alignment is somehow off (cause it seems to be taking the paper out of the tray wrong). Can you help me in further troubleshooting this problem?

The document feeder on this machine uses a separation and a feed roller ,the pad is on the bottom and the roller sits on top . in most cases the pad will be white if it is not it must be cleaned .use isopropyl alcohol. then clean the roller using water on a paper towel. On the tray issue if the paper is torn or nicked the sensor flag may be damaged if it is you will need a service call . if the paper is not nicked check to see if the default paper size has been programmed into the user settings on the copier [ read the owners man.] When you send a print to the printer go to printing preferences and check on the paper size being sent to the printer it must match the paper size loaded into the machine

I have a cannon image class MF6540. When I try and print I get an error "out of paper". I have plently of paper. I am able to copy but not print.

I assume you are trying to print from your computer.
The driver for this unit will give you an out of paper message almost any time it won't print for any reason.
If the unit copies, but does not print from your computer, then it is a communication issue. Perhaps uninstall/reinstall the driver?

Try printing a test page. Is it also blank? If so, you should check your ink system (cartridges full, etc.)

Can I use my Cannon MF5550 with Apple MacBook

don't know. I have never tried it with a MAC. But if you can find Mac compatible drivers somewhere online or through Canon, then you can try lots of things.
If you can not, then you are stuck.

Windows vista drivers

Sadly if printer manufacturer doesnt support Vista then you are out of luck. Sometimes if a printer has a big userbase, for example design studios or printing firms. Then a 3rd party might produce unofficial drivers. I have had a look but cannot see anywhere that are offering Vista drivers.
