I recently plugged back in my boss br 8 to listen back to old recordings etc...but I am only receiving sound through one ear of my headphones, even when I just plug in my guitar to record it is only one ear...I used to line out to speakers so I don't know if this is normal through the headphone jack, but I have adjusted all pans and regardless of mode etc...still only one ear. Maybe a stupid question, but any insight would be appreciated. thanks
This may also sound stupid but; have you tried a different set of headphones? If you have never used the headphone jack there might be a chance that the contacts inside the jack are dirty from airborn pollutants such as cigarette smoke or cooking smoke. Another good example is if you have a flute or silverware laying around in the open , they will tarnish from the sulfur dioxide in the air. Try spraying a very small squirt of contact cleaner on a stereo plug and plugging and unplugging it into the jack. Make sure you do this with the power turned off. If that doesn't work, do it to the jack itself. Only use a very small amount. If that doesn't work you may have a bad solder joint in the connections to the jack or a circuitry problem. The jacks sometimes a have a built in switching circuit to defeat the signal when phones are plugged in and sometimes the jack fails. Hope this gives you some ideas.

Make sure that the headphone output jack is clean and free of any debris. Sometimes, dirt or dust can accumulate and affect the signal.
Output Mode:
Double-check the output mode settings on your Boss BR 1180. There might be a setting that affects the stereo output, so ensure that it is set correctly.
Output Routing:
Verify that the output routing settings are correct. Check if there's a setting that might be causing the output to be directed to only one side.
Master Output:
Check the master output settings to ensure they are balanced. If there's an imbalance in the master output settings, it could affect the stereo playback.
Factory Reset:
Consider performing a factory reset on your Boss BR 1180. This can often resolve software-related issues that might be causing the playback problem.
External Monitor:
If possible, connect the recorder to an external speaker or monitor system using the appropriate outputs to see if the issue persists.
Contact Support:
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, it might be a hardware problem within the unit. You might need to contact Boss support or a professional technician for further assistance or repairs.
I asssume you have ti connected to a mixer/amplifier as you have to have some sort of sound reproduction system connected. If you are going through a computer, you have the computer settings set improperly.
Moost of these will only use a max card of 2Gb. There are some conversion programs. There was a lot of discussion at one time on Vsplanet dot com about these units if the site is still active.
I get an unformatted come on the screen on my Boss BR 532 when I swith on, and also when pressing record, although I can get drum machine to work and guitar go through it ok but no recording Hmmmm Erggg
I used a different power adapter and it works now. Try different adapters, I used an old Nintendo one. It is 9V 1.3A, even though the back of the BR-8 says 9V 2A
This Is real simple grab a cable that goes from rca jacks to a headphone jack then plug the rca jacks into the br-1180's audio out jack and then plug the other end into your computers mic port. Download Audacity From www.Audacity.com and then use it to capture you audio and then you can burn that when complete. Its real simple I do it all the time even though I have the br-1180cd the cd burner burns real quiet so I don't use it. The cable can be bought at radio shack, best buy, wal-mart and I have even seen them at 99 cent only stores. If you have more question let me know This Is my main unit so I know a lot about it. Sincerely, Michael Scott
Midi doesn't actually "make sound". If your trying to record the patterns you made on the DR-5 to the recorder you need to use an audio output(I don't remember if they are RCA or 1/4" on the DR-5.) The midi output would be used to"trigger sounds" in another device that has sounds built in, or you could also trigger sounds in a program that supports midi input.
