I have a HP pavilion a6119h desktop. After downloaded updated and shut down two days ago now it doesn't want to boot up or power up.

Well i recommend you reinstalling windows xp

Firstly how on earth did it get hit with lightening? i have several computers in my house none of which have been hit with lightening during a storm.

secondly it sounds like some of the components are damaged i would try the different components in different machines to rule them out if certain components are damaged you will have to replace them.

Those functions are not set by the operating system or the keyboard, they are set by individual software programs and could have a different function for each program. Typically F1 is help and F5 is refresh.

If you can boot into safe mode, then once in safe mode open system restore and then restore to a couple days prior to the install of the hp drivers. This should fix the problem. If you need to know how to get into system restore let me know your operating system (Vista or XP)

Has there been a power surge meanwhile? If so, try unplugging the power cord, press the power button, reconnect power and try booting. Sometimes works.

do you have an extra power supply?

if it has...isolate your power suply...so that you will know that your power supply work properly..
