Go to this link, its on microsofts homepage directed at the laser desktop 4000, from that point all you have to do it click on download software under downloads on the right side and then identify your product with the drop down menu's, a manual should be here.

Microsoft wireless keyboard 4000 - The upper keys not working

A microsoft update, or a system rollback may have changed the drivers, or unregistered the buttons from the associated profile..

If the keyboard came with drivers, or software, you will more than likely need to re-install them.

Microsoft 4000 wireless keyboard is not working

Look under the wireless keyboard. There is a door to install batteries. It sounds as though you just need to replace the batteries on the keyboard. I think that they're AA.

Good luck!

Manual

Microsoft does not have manuals for their wireless keboards and mouse.
I will give you a few things to look at as I have the same Keyboard.
Normal 0 Go to Control Panel.
1. Click on Keyboard.
2. When the Keyboard Properties come up, CLICK on Key Settings.
3. Then set up the keys by selecting the Key to be changed.
Normal 0 Go to Control Panel and click on the Mouse icon.
Then select the Mouse button you need to program.
Normal 0 Press the Receiver button (and the lights will start flashing.
Then if the Keyboard isn't working, press the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the board to connect the keyboard to the receiver.

If the MOUSE isn’t working, push the small RESET/CONNECT button on the back of the mouse to connect to the receiver. Then they should work okay.
Hope this helps. Bud
