There are two reasons you will not get a display from the mainboard, the first is RAM and the second is Processor. If it is RAM the scren will not light up at all, you might also get long beeps. If the problem is a processor the screen will be blank and nothing will happen.

This is apart from the obvious power supply and screen issues. If you have checked these things it is possible the main board has failed and needs replacement.

Display chip in the motherboard is not functioning in my Acer Aspire 1410-8414 Net book

If it's still in warranty, then Acer will fix it free of charge.

If not in warranty, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable that joins the display to the mainboard may fix it. It may be a dirty connection, a dead inverter board, or even dead backlight (incorporated into the lcd panel itself) or the entire lcd could be shot. It could also be the onboard video chip. Also try connecting the netbook to an external monitor. If you power the netbook on with an external monitor connected, it should light up the external monitor. Also, it may not be the display...... Try removing and reseating the ram. Try just one ram chip if there is more than one. The unit may just also be dead (mainboard). Try the warranty route first. Acer also has a flat fee they charge to do a mainboard in Canada ($199). Call Acer first.

Hope this helps! Let me know how you make out.

Regards,

Joe

DS lite displays wrong colors on top screen

I agree, applying pressure should (key word) not effect the display if it's the mainboard. Either the technician that replaced the screen was not fully qualified for his job, or he just wanted to do a quick fix to get some money. Here are a few suggestions:

1) Go to ebay or craigslist and get the same one for a cheaper price.

2) Send it back again and tell them that you've already invested a great deal of money into this system and refuse to pay for a faulty console.

3) Do a pressure check. Find that spot that fixed it and a way to consecutively fix the problem by pushing it in that spot so that when you send it back, you can show them that it is in fact the display.

4) There is a small (i forget the exact term) ribbon of wires connecting the display to the mainboard that could be the problem; hence they said it is the mainboard. You'd be better off buying another system before you throw away your money into this one.

If you wind up getting another one, invest in a rubber skin or a hard-shell skin so that if it is dropped again, there should be no problem.

MY COMPUTER SCREEN LOOKS LIKE IT WENT THROUGH A SHREADER

Sounds like either a driver problem or a defective graphics chip. Is this a new or older notebook? Determine your graphics manufacturer and try downloading their latest driver for your video graphics software or hardware driver.

If it is a defective chip, you will need to contact the notebook manufacturer to get repair service. If the notebook is less than a year old you should be able to get the service for free. If you have an extended warranty then it should cover your situation.

Hope this helps.

No display and no connectivity to the computer

Replace all electrolytic capacitors in power supply section on mainboard. caused by poor quality lower voltage caps being used in powersupply. Problem will reoccur every 2 to 3 years if 105oC caps are not used. If mainboard is replaced with new mainboard problem will reoccur within same timeframe. Fix old mainboard using higher voltage and higher temp caps and problem will be gone for good.
