HOW DO YOU RESET PASSWORD IF SOMEONE FORGOT AFTER AN ACCIDENT.

depends on when the laptop asks for the password. Is it when its first switched on BEFORE windows starts or is it the windows login password. If its before windows starts, is it asking for a hard drive password or a power on password

My Laptop was switched off from last few day, when i started it recently it ask for some password. I don't know what was the password, can you please help me out?

Hi,

This is only possible is you are using Windows XP. If your operating system is windows Xp, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn on your laptop and allow it get to the stage where is will ask for user/log password
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del your keyboard.
  3. A user name and password prompt will pop up.
  4. On the user name type in "administrator
  5. On the password, type in "administrator"
  6. and you windows will open, go to control panel from there to change the password.
That's all. In other words, the user name and password is administrator.

But in the case of windows Vista, you will have to re-run windows operating system, because vista security is very tight and its difficult to break into its password.

Take care..

When i turn on computer power on password comes on

This could be a Windows password or a system password or both. If you don't have the Windows password and the former owner can't tell you what it is, you might have to erase the disk, reinstall Windows and thus solve the problem. A System password is a theft protection that can only be changed if you know the password. It is embedded in the laptop hardware. Ask the former owner what the password is, otherwise there is no solution but to ask Compaq Service.

I want to know if i have an internal hhard drive on my acer aspire 7520-5907. I wanted to wipe my hard drive and staart with a clean lap top, but it keeps asking for a password. I have purchased it at a...

Of course your laptop have an internal hard disk drive And it has a working operating system which unfortunately locked by a password.

To start a fresh installation, you need to have a Windows CD/DVD Installer and a valid CD key.

Turn ON your laptop and load the CD Installer. Leave the CD Installer in the CD drive and restart your laptop by turning it OFF and then back on. It will then start the Setup Program which will guide you in installing a fresh copy of Windows.

Put new hard drive in my laptop it is asking for a password

If it is asking for a password shortly after turning the laptop on ,and before windows or anything else loads, its likley the hard drive wasn't new. It appears that for some reason it has a lock password on it. The only way in would be to contact where you got it from and see if they can help. Generally speaking new drives dont have these locks. If its after windows loads up then things are a little easier. Whilst your laptop turns on hold down the f8 key until you get a windows boot menu. Select Safe Mode use your arrow keys and press enter. When Windows loads it will look slightly different. Just Click on Start --> Control Panel and navigate to the Users Icon. Open this and select your user, then click change password to reset it. Just reboot after these steps and you should be able to login. If niether of these things work than leave a comment and I will get back to you with more help.

Please take a moment to rate my solution.
Thanks.
Simon.

Installed netgear dg834g router. Switched off my laptop. When I turned on my laptop windows is now asking for a password and wont let me in.. Never had one before.. Help.

This is not a router question ... if Windows is asking for a password. Unless you mean you are looking at a Netgear Router sign on page asking for a password?

One thing has nothing to do with the other.

Resetting the password

There are two places when you may be asked for a password - can you please clarify which one it is.
  1. The BIOS password which will ask you for a password BEFORE you see the Windows loading screen
  2. The Windows password, which will ask you for the password after the computer has started, but before you can see your desktop.
There is a reasonably easy solution for both of these.
