Disconnect from mains take off water pump from under the washer and bench test (apply 240v to the contacts). If the pump turns and is OK refit it. |The next thing to do is replace the control panel behind the front door. the part you need is TIMER BIT100.1 'S5' ROHS + N1045048 and can cost from £37 - £90 try amazon. fit and fix. |The control panel provides 240v to the pump, hence why you should replace it because yours isn't possibly?. do continuity checks on the cabling.

Hi we have a Hotpoint Aquarius FDAL28 dishwasher. Machine turns on, drains and fills but then 3 lights keep flashing and washer stops programme. Any ideas what problem could be?

Depending on which lights are flashing, there is either a problem with the electronic control module, or the pump is stuck or has a motor failure. You can see which by comparing which lights are flashing with the pattern on this page of error codes:

Hotpoint dishwasher 4th & 6th lights flashing

You will need to provide the model number of the dishwasher. However, the likely causes of the lights flashing are many, including water inlet failure, blocked drain filter, leaking seals causing flood switch to trip. You may want to go to the Hotpoint site and find the manual for your model.
