Hi, problem can be solved. What causes the keypad will light up for a few seconds then turns off, is because the keypad has a separate function from the phone. (it has a removable keypad). And the keypad inside the cell phone is getting Bad and it needs to be replaced.

I had the same problem with my slvr.I removed the battery and took a hair dryer adnspent many hours slowly drying phone.Been working for two years now!
hey, i had the same bloody problem, exactly the same. but after i removed and inserted my battery several times, it was fine!!! ANd the keypad works fine now.
if the MMC an the other keys not working' hardware prob.
may your L7 flex ribbon is defected, or you keypad board...
your MMC is connected to the keypadboard and the keypadboard is connected to the flex from the main board...
the best thing to do is bring to the cellphoneshop re-pair

Yes, both the external keypad and the PCB assembly are relaceable. Here is one that I found online for $59 and change. http://www.cellulardr.com/0171038A01.htm . If you visit some other online resources you may find an instructional video on how to replace the PCB assembly and the tools required. Hope that helps.
