My ps3 overheats and shuts down - Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

on the back of your controller there is a reset button have to use a pin to get in and reset it as far as the ps3 freezing its probley the fan going bad and causing the ps3 to overheat, does it just freeze up or shut down.

Most likely a YLOD problem.
This problem occurs when that PS3 Unit overheats and the GPU or CPU becomes UN-soldiered from the mother board. the only way to repair this is by a re-flow of the soldier under the chips on the board.
This needs to be done by a professional due to the extreme sensitive nature of the internal electronics. There are a few repair services out there. I have been doing these repairs for a few years now and it usually takes me about 2 hours to repair a unit and then I like to test it for 30 hours to make sure it won't overheat anymore.

is it cold where it is it may not turn on because it not getting hot enough if it is bad it will over heat the hard drive and cpu

The PS3 combines the features of a game console and a Blu-ray player in one device but like many highly sophisticated devices it can easily overheat. Yes this is the YLOD the (Yellow light of death) it happens when the GPU and the CPU overheat and you will need to fix this by stopping the heat build up, you can sned it in and they will fix it for you for $130.

Mine did the same thing yesterday. I called PS3 tech support and they said to fill out a service order request, they will send a prepaid box. When I get the pre-paid box send it back and since it is out of warranty, it will cost me $150.00. Will take from the time I fill out the request online to getting my fixed PS3....about 4 weeks. Mine did not overheat, in the middle of a movie...shut down. Nextflix DVD is stuck and they said that they will return the DVD in another mailing. Can not believe that as advanced the PS3 is, there is not an emergancy DVD release like on PC's. Good luck and hope this helps!!

well .... try to install a coolermod in your system...

maybe overheat problem can freeze and you need to shut down your system...

need to power up the rpm of your coller...more ventilation to control overheat..this is coolermod!

The transistor fiber in the mainframe underneathe the cutter points from the plate outlet is getting overworked despite the fan and ventilation systems. When the operation manifold extends it's forskin to the knee joints of the disc lense, the router governor doesn't recognize it and forgets to shut down and the fan stops running at the proper speed. A patch cannot fix this bug so they have to redo the code before they can put it on store shelves.

Pretty much the delay it has for the game to load overheats your system and causes it to shut down. Id say either contact SONY or the game manufactorer and see if there is anything they can do. I hope this info helps

try holding the power button on the right
side of the console as you turn the back power switch on.Keep on holding the power button and see if there is a double beep.If this doesn't work,and if you want to try this? Open the HDD cover on the left side of the unit(front facing you).after removing the cover,remove the HDD unit and reconnect.It might be a loose HDD connection.This should only take you 2 mins to do and it won't void your warranty
