I replaced my old mercury thermostat with a ct87k and it will not turn on. I have tried several so they surely are not defective. Hooked my old one back up and the furnace works. only 2 wire supply on a floor furnace. Any ideas?

Some furnaces have power switches on the service doors. They won't work unless the doors are in place. Shorting together the R and W should start the furnace.

The two wires are hooked to the baseplate at the R terminal and the W terminal. there may be a switch somewhere on thermostat for electric or gas heat. make sure its in gas mode. make sure batteries are fresh and put in correctly in regards to polarity. make sure furnace is on when doing any settings with the thermostat. make sure themostat is set to "heat". make sure themostat is calling for heat (turn way up to be sure its doing that) . check the troubleshooting guide that came with the new thermostat.

Have a ct87k. Got power at wall. Plug t-stat nothing.switches are both off for gas.

Those normally do not fail, they have a mercury switch in them. However there is a cravat they have to be mounted level and up side up. If that is the way it is mounted then just replace it.

Bought new thermostat model ct87k but old Honeywell model I have was hook up by black and white wire not red and white , so how do I hook up.

The two wire Honeywell T87 and CT87 is nothing but a switch in a control circuit. Wire color is not important at all. What is important is the TERMINAL DESIGNATION those wires are hooked to. Soooo....take the wire off of the sub base of the old stat terminal marked 'R' and attach it to the new sub base terminal marked 'R' and so on. Wire COLOR means nothing at all in your case.

Old thermostat wires same color.

Gary, you have not told us if this is just for heat or both heat and air conditioning. I will walk you through a heat only thermostat installation. The two wires you have should connect to R (or RH) and W terminals on the new thermostat. Varify that there are only two wires hooked to the gas valve on the furnace. It is a good idea to hook the red wire to the R terminal.

Replaced mercury thermostat w/Honeywell CT87K - doesn't work!

You need a specific thermostat for a Wall Furnace it is a Millivolt Thermostat and not a 24v standard thermostat....usually it will work anyway however if the powerpile (generator produces millivolts from the pilot light) is weak it may not be producing enough...or the Pilot light may be dirty and lazy...won't produce enough millivolts ...or you can have bad or dirty contacts or connections....or a combination of any of the above.....a 24v Thermostat and particularly a non-mercury thermostat has too much resistance in it for a millivolt system....as your Wall Furnace (other than the fan) runs on less than 1 volt

My honeywell ct87K thermostat will not turn the heater on

On your thermostat - R is the power in terminal. Y is the cooling out. W is the heating out. (G is fan out). It does not matter which wire goes to R, the other should go to W - if no heat with a call, the thermostat is bad.
