Useless at setting up. No sound on playback. Blocked timer record
Hi Realise I am useless at setting up my first DVD player. Need help/ guidance! The player is an LG RH387. Signal sequence is Sky box to DVD via Scart and then Scart to TV. Seems simple, but.... 2 problems: 1) I can not set a timer record because the player wants to scan for channels first. There is no TV Antenna, so the only signal comes from the Sky box on AV2, but I cant get round the demand to scan channels... (Realise I could get a portable antenna to allow the scan, but once it registered the channels would I be able to set a timer record for the AV2 input anyway??) 2) I get no sound. If I select 'TV' on the remote, I get sound on the live Sky channels, but if I try and play a DVD I get image and no sound... Hope someone can save the day!
Re: Useless at setting up. No sound on playback. Blocked...
You won`t get round the scan without an aerial. You still can set a recording as long as you set the recording channel as av2.Make sure the scart lead is fully in on dvd and tv,this can lead to no pic but sound,or sound no pic

Clearly the dvd unit is reading the discs and processing the data ok for it to record on the tape without problem, therefore the problem is either the interface between the tv and the player or a mismatch of signal or signal type between the tv and player.
I am wondering if you have tried a different tv, in particular one of a similar vintage to the player?
How are you connecting the unit and the tv? The usual way and the best way is using a scart lead but the scart system that takes a good analogue signal straight into the sound and video sections of the tv has been going out of fashion for a couple of decades and modern tv sets are accepting only digital inputs, rendering a great deal of useful older equipment useless.
Digital to analogue and analogue to digital converters are available at many prices but I don't know how successful they are.
OK here's what the user manual has to say on it!
PS If you need the user manual I will E-Mail on request.

use the red/white/yellow jacks from the digital box to the VCR input, then set the VCR to L1 or line 1, you will not be able to use the timer function on the vcr but it works for playback, due to the change over from analog to digital your timer is now useless

I had the same problem. You have the recording setting on time lapse and there is no sound. Set the recording on to standard by turning the round wheel at the back of your camera. I did not read the manual until I had this problem and I ended up making useless fast videos with no sound. Hope I am right?
Take, if good batteris from the remote controller and recycel the unit, and by a better one. I have the same problem, recordings will stay on the dvd only a short thime readable and later the disk is empty.
Sorry my english.
