Usually the tension of the take-up reel keeps the shut-off arm taught and everything works. If the shut off arm falls down, the recorder stops. Is that what's happening?

Inadaquate (or NO) take-up tension can cause this; so can WARPED take up reels. Another possibility: if you play a lot of old tapes, the groove in the shut-off arm collects dirt and oxide, so the tape - as it goes through it - jams, and the take-up reel can not overcome the tension. The arm "falls down" and shuts off the machine. Also SOME tapes (which were "cut down" from 2"
tapes) are poorly ****, and will jam some machines.

This is what I do for a living, so if these suggestions don't work, give me more information, and I'll solve your problem.

Hi James,
I am a past Teac Technician. The answer may be a bad capstan belt- is the round metal thing rotating that makes contact with the rubber Pinch Roller? These belts become lose over time and the DC motor become defective in time due to wear- Before they burn out they can be serviced but only by a person with knowledge about how to take them apart. Otherwise the part can be $120 plus installation. I have not seen sticky Pinch Roller linkages in these models so I will say it is probably not that.
If you are near Chicago I can help you out. If you are near New Jersey Russ can help. If you want to discuss, contact me.

I work on all Teac and Tascam units now full time.
I am also known on tapeheads.net as well.

Having problems recording and playing back tascam dc-02 cf

I'm assuming you are plugging the left and right outputs from the karaoke machine into input A and B of the Tascam to record the stereo output of the Karioke. The Tascam works with mono only (you recreate the stereo mix at mixdown or when bouncing mono tracks together with the panning set). Therefore you should be assigning inputs A and B separately. You could press assign A and then the record button above track 1 and then press assign B and the record button above track 2. Then arm tracks 1 and 2 (by pressing record above each). When you then press play and record together you'll record input A onto track 1 and input B onto track 2.

Hope this helps.

Tascam model 112

The 112 unit uses a cam operated transport- it may need a new 6.5" belt and some head base lubrication as well as the feedback pot spray cleaned. I do them all the time.

Cd rewritable player recorder tascam cdrw4u

I never had that problems. I have been using it over five years. Does it play commercially made CDs (the ones you bought at the store)? Panel shows track numbers and sound volume? Can you hear it by using a head set (phone volume control turned up? If so, now recording part, do you have input select correct (analog or digital)? Input cable(s) into right connector(s)? When you press "record" button, does it put into "pause" mode? Can you watch the incoming sound levels when it is on "pause" mode? Can you start the recording with remote's fader button or play/pause button on the machine? Good luck.

Tascam DM-24 Digital Mixer Problem

I purchased a used Tascam DM-24 mixer about 2 years ago, and it 's been running great. Just about 2 months, it frequently shut itself off with a message:
" Power Supply voltage (+5V) is too low for stable operation. Please restart DM-24".
Of course, many attempts of restarting the board, but it won't turn back on after several hours later, and only lasts about half a day work only. Very frustrating. Any idea I could get help or fixed? million thanks for suggestions. Brian
