My sony picture will not come on, the standby led flashes red then the "lamp" led light below comes on about 1 minute later. Shall I assume it is the lamp, fan or other?. The unit is about 5 years old and lately seems as though it takes a little longer for the picture to come on upon start.

I would replace the Lamp first. It is giving you a classic failure symptom.
I hope this helps,

Sony grand wega 3lcd light is flashing red 3 times

Three flashes is lamp cover/lamp position error, it means the lamp cover is not set right, or the lamp is not in the right position. There are two micro switches to detect the lamp position, and lamp cover. Please reset the lamp and the lamp cover (door).

I'm working on my 1996 model KP-53v35 Sony. The problem is that I plug it in and it tries to come on and the red LED flashes and it shuts off.

If the lamp light is blinking, then lamp needs to be replaced. If the standby light is blinking, the try resetting the TV. Turn Off the TV and remove the power plug from the wall outlet for 1 minute and reconnect it and check the operation. If the issue still persists, then the service may be required.

The picture goes off, the power/standby light

Sony KDF-60XS955 picture goes and power/standby light light flashes

Hi,

Most likely you have bulb failure. First step in troubleshooting is "Change the Lamp or Bulb". Lightning, power line bumps and collisions with vacuum cleaners can all shorten lamp life. Rough handling in shipment can also happen without your knowledge.

+90% of all Sony LCD Rear Projector "No Picture or Intermittent Picture" faults are related to bulb failure.

If new lamp does not improve the situation, then hands-on troubleshooting by someone that has parts and knows how the unit works is the only practical remedy.

Standby LED flashes red 4 times with pause then 4 times

You either have a bad fan or one of the rotation sensors mounted on one of the fans has failed. Take the back off the set and see it the main fan slightly right of center is rotating. If it is, there are two more fans, one mounted right above the lamp and another on the optical block itself. You will have to pull the optical block to check those.

No Picture/Sound

can you go to the error menu?
im assuming it's the lamp however the error menu will tell me more
If the standby light blinks five times repeatedly, that's indication of a "Lamp driver error". The probable cause listed is, "lamp driver faulty". Its also possible that the internal antenna used to detect the presence of high voltage has become mis-positioned. The lamp driver provides the high voltage. If no high voltage is detected, it is assumed that the lamp driver is faulty.
Otherwise, it is assumed that the lamp is bad and the LAMP LED lights
the part number for the lamp is XL2000U. Its available for $200 at http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/productSearch.do. Use the Part or Accessory Number to locate the part.
