I havent seen one of those in some time, (a few years, and only once then.) BUT, if I am not mistaken, the face pulls off to reveal screws. I tried looking it up for you, but the site is undergoing maintenance.

Opening the case u have to see that the power supply is facing you when you lay it down.....check some PC case does not have screws, but levers that helps to remove cover...but if their is a screw associated remove them all then slide case back towards you and lift.

Assuming your dell is the same as this one reviewed by PC magazine in 2001 it needs an IDE (a.k.a. "PATA") drive. It's old enough it may not recognize larger drives. You may have have to track down a 40 or possibly 80 gig IDE drive some where (eBay maybe?). In my experience people don't want them so you can probably get them rather cheap.

Opening the case of the Poweredge 5000SC

Hello,

You would need to unscrew the thumbscrew located on the right side of the rear panel, press top and bottom cover release tabs and pull the cover toward you. To replace, perform the steps in reverse.

How do I open up my dell optiplex 170l to be able to add an additional memory card

depending on the exact model there should be two black buttons which press in to loosen the case and lift the case upwards away from the computer (if it is led down)

On the bigger model there should be two screews at the back which you unscrew and then slide the case away from the front of the computer whilst pressing in.

Check BIOS settings for any "boot sector protection" or similar. If this
kind of protection is enabled, Setup will not be able to write needed
startup files to the disk

The memory inside is fixed but there is an open slot . Just open the access panel on the back and the slot is there. You can add up to 1GB
