Microphone distorted i have an at4040 hooked up to a firewire solo, and i'm using pro tools. i have recorded with this set up all the time.but yesterday i started to speak into the microphone and my voice was all distorted and mest up. i have never dropped the mic and i always had the dust cover on it. and its never left my studio. so i thought it might be the cable so i grabbed my voltimeter and checked the xlr cable and it checked out fine. my audio interface outputs to my speakers and headset fine.....so i'm thinkin that not the culprit......so my question is do u think its the mic? and how much am i lookin at to get it repaird?

You are over driving the recorder because the input level is too high. There should be a volume or gain control on the recorder to cut down on the level.

As the Fastrack can only receive one audio signal at a time you would have to record each track seperatly into Pro Tools.
I'm guessing your mixer is a multitrack recorder.
Solo track 1 on the multitracker and playback from there into the Fastrack, with track 1 on Pro Tools set to record. Repeat this for each or your tracks on the multitracker.
When you've finished you'll need to align all the tracks in Pro Tools so they all playback in time with each other.
ive got a problem cuz this thing doesnt have a ******* firewire port. and i was hopoing to use this for pro tools. i need to know where i can get an adapter of some sorts. but what you should do is hook the mics in to the back ports. adjust volume. then do the ****
That is a condenser mic and I bet the others you are trying are dynamic. Does your unit supply phantom power? It should. Or look for a power injector as a separate box.
its a condenser mic and i don't have a back up to swap
