Bike has set for about a month. New battery was 4

Honga GL1800 2004 Bike has set for about a month. New battery was 4 months old. Went to start and no lights or anything. Hooked up battery charger and the meter never showed it was putting any charge into battery. I put on start mode (50amp) and it did turn over but no start. I think the battery has a bad cell and wont take a charge. I think I may have done damage (fuse??) to the starting system. Did see low beam headlights burn bright and go out??

Your battery looses about 1% per month sitting. Shooting 50 amps into your little battery didnt do it any good even though you felt better. You might have a dead cell but I doubt it in a 4 month old battery. You can do a hydro test on it (good reading is 1200) and a volt reading (above 10 is ok) or maybe just replace it.

I suggest you put it on trickle charge for 24 or more hours.

If you regularly let your bike set for more than a week, you may want to consider adding a fuel stabilizer which will prevent or at lease reduce the harmful buildup of varnish and other gunk in your fuel system. I like Sta-bil but there are others. You might inquire at the Honda shop what they recommend. You might also want to use something in the fuel to clean the system - popular is injector cleaner but I am not personally endorsing this. Ask the parts guy at your Honda shop.

I hope this helps you ...

My son's Razor MX650 Electric Dirt Bike charged all night. The light on the charger shows green but the light on the bike is yellow and the bike wont go at all. What would cause this?

Question edited to add full make model (what it is).
Question moved from 'Health and Beauty' Category.

Sounds like either the charger isn't providing power at the connector, despite the green light, or that there is a battery fault. Contact the maker in Warranty Returns or start testing with a multimeter.

??????????4 out of 5 stars.· 2 years ago Great but......Back brake pads worn out within first 6 months as well as the battery. Second battery only lasted 4 months . HORRIBLE.. warranty I believe is like 30 days. Hard to replace battery. Literally have to take apart whole middle section of bike to remove it. Parts are extremely high in price.

2003 Lincoln Town Car Issues

The simplest things can cause the most trouble - I would start with a load test on the battery - may seem to be charged after using a battery charger, but can have plate connection problems causing failure under load.

Bike won't start

Do any lights come on when you turn the key? Do you need to pull in the clutch leaver to start? Make sure engine kill switch is in run position, Make sure you have petrol if more than 2 months old change it. Check main and ignition fuses are OK in fact check all fuses while your at it. Make sure your battery is OK your charger may say full but that does not mean the battery has enough oomph to start the bike.
How long ago since it last ran OK does anything come to mind when you stopped it then. Times of no run = times of problems.

Hi there and welcome to fixya,

try cleaning the spark plugs or better, replace them with a new set. Also, drain the carbs of its old fuel. pull the choke lever halfway then start, release the choke and start by not squeezing the throttle. If this fails, jump start it on 2nd-3rd gear with mild throttle hold the rpm for a while until engine heats up.

Hope this helps,

Your battery might be toaast. Need to check the battery with a load on it. An volt meter hooked to the battery (good battery-12'8V) will tell you how much voltage drops when you hit starter button. SHouldn't go below 12. If you have a bad cell, the voltmeter wil drop to less than 10 V. Battery's dead/new battery req'd Hope this helps

Leaking battery

Yuasa batteries are expensive but with good reason. They are extremely high quality and follow the old adage 'you get what you pay for'.
Cheap batteries appear initial good 'value' but the extra investment will pay dividends long-term, if properly maintained, your Yuasa will last many years.

If you suspect the liquid is acid, neutralize it with some baking soda just to be sure. You don't want that dripping onto anything metal or pain, causing damage.
Once you have it neutralized, wash it out with water.

It sounds like you ride infrequently and bike may have periods of serveral weeks on occasion without being ridden.

My recommendation would be to install a quality replacement (like the OEM Yuasa) then purchase a battery maintainer that you can plug in while bike is not being used. Good maintainers are Optimate and Battery Tender. (I have both myself - I really like the Optimate 4.) Both of these come with a waterproof 'pigtail' harness that you can permanently connect to the battery - then when you put the bike away, you can simply connect up to it without having to remove anything.

Hope this is helpful.

Good Luck!!

I have a 2001 Suzuki SV650. When I purchased it (about a month ago), a new battery was installed. The bike was running fine, but 4 days ago, the battery died. So I hooked it up to a trickle charger, and...

sounds like a charging system. same thing happens with cars when the alternator goes kaput. so i would say check your charging system weather it be an alternator or generator.
