The thing is when u try to install an OS(Which ever it is),most probably it wont contain the IDE drivers for your hard disks. But the HP restore works fine as it already have the drivers incoporated with the OS it has. IF u want to install XP 64bit then do one thing . Download the IDE drivers from the HP website for yur lap then mix it with the set up of XP u have . You can get a lot of softwares for this purpose and after that write the mix copy on the DVD and then install it will work like anything
