• 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY • 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it. • 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS.
That will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop
system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen. After
the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the
power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
Hi, First, verify the monitor is functional. Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check) Turn off the monitor Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer Turn on the monitor The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background. If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?
Hi bsut96,
Check the cable between the monitor and the box for damage.
Try a new cable.
It may be a problem with the input board but it sounds like a cable problem.

I had the exact same problem. Another thread on this site recommended replacing the inverter from www.lcdpart.com
I ordered the replacement inverter from their San Francisco office this past Friday. I received in less than 72 hours later and I live in Tampa. AND THIS IS THE HOLIDAYS.
Anyway, they have a tutorial installation instruction on their website for the Dell W1700. I have never worked on a tv, but with their tutorial it took me about an 1.5 hours to disconnect, disassemble, repair, and test the tv. Everything now works again... and for only $90 including shipping.
