Hi, I bought a refurbed Olevia 26" LCD because it had all the inputs I wanted for my mac and cable to work. It's been working great for me until about a month ago when my 2 year old son hit it lightly and the next morning it didn't come on and then gave me a weird lined screen that was flickering with a lot of random different colors. After about 20 minutes of turning it on and off again like an idiot I got frustrated and hit it on the top of the frame...I know, I know, that was stupid. However, that worked and it's been working perfectly for the past month. Unfortunately my son hit it again last night while i was in the kitchen and I'm getting the same issue this morning. The screen comes on and looks like it's trying to work but all I'm getting is a bunch of blue and white lines and weird patterns coming up. I'm a web designer so I NEED this TV to work. I've thought about dropping another $400 on another TV but I don't know of many with the same inputs as this and would hate to deal with the hassle of waiting. Is there any way to fix this TV??? If not, would you have any suggestions on a good LCD TV that's not too pricey but has the multiple inputs I would need (Computer, audio, cable). Thanks in advance! - brycen
I too had a similar problem with my 26" Olevia LCD TV, except it would flicker at different frequencies like a strobe light. The flicker would even increase in speed, giving the visual illusion that the TV was about to blow up. After several power-on, power-off, unplug, repeat, I was about to give up and think about looking for another TV. I saw your posts here and both of you "hit" the TV and it seemed to fix it, right? Same here -- I gave the TV several good lateral "whacks" upon the outer edges of the unit! The whacks weren't violent, just slightly "jarring" and after that, the TV stopped the flickering. As you've said, it is quite juvenile to go beating on electronics, but interestingly enough, this method of "fixing" the electronics does at least seem to have an effect if done correctly.
I do also note that I went into the TV's menus and intentionally set the "Back Light" setting to "Dark" and "DNR" to "Low" to perhaps attempt to lesser drive the back light. Since the beatings and then the much more rational idea of changing the menu options, the TV has worked, at least for a while now, relatively well.

Same problem, I bought it new and it worked for about a year, then I had Direct TV installed and then had problems. I did not believe this was related but I am starting to wonder. At first the TV would work for 55Min after I unplugged it, then the video would start flickering with the lines etc. The first time I unhooked the coax input and reconnected and it worked for a while. That only worked once, then I would leave uplugged for awhile, and plug in and get 40 - 50 Min of it working, then video problems. I took it all apart, and sprayed chilling spray on the chips and components hoping to find an intermittent heat problem, no luck. I cleaned all the edge connectors with contact cleaner and put back together. Same thing. Put back up on the deck, and was watching a football game this fall on it, lasted about 70Min and same thing. I too, frustrated, started smacking it with a rubber mallet on the sides, top etc, and it started working again, I left the mallet next to it on the deck, and by smacking it when it went out got thru most of the game.
it is now in my rec room and I am working on it today, it is very frustrating, I have TVs in my house I wish would break so I could justify replacing them, but this was not supposed to be one of them. I will not buy another off brand again, glad I only wasted $500 and not $2500.
If anyone has successfully fixed this video problem, I would love to hear about it.
