Hi,

You cannot downgrade Windows 7 from Windows XP by not reformatting the hard drive. You need to Remove Windows 7 first, before installing Windows XP Operating System. In order to use the Windows XP CD to fully reformat the Hard drive, follow the steps on the link below.

Hello,

You can do it yourself. First backup all your data on a USB dribve or somewhere else.
Now Simply insert the CD/DVD of the OS which you want to install. (WIndows XP/Windows 7).
Make sure it should be bootable. Restart your machien and Let the Installation begin.. It will ask for you to press any key to Setup Continue.. Press any key. Now just follow the Steps as provided in the screen in third screen where get the option to choose C:\ or D:\ here you can choose C and use format option.

With regards

I have install windows7 but now i want to install windows xp what is process of installing windows xp

there are two ways to do it. the easy way and the hard way:

  • easy way is longer, you simply back-up your files, then reformat your PC and reinstall XP
  • the hard way is more technical, but does not require reformatting. please see link below for the set-by-step guide

I have seen this b4 but only with a hard drive that was formatted with a third party partioning software like "patition majic" U can try using that software to add the new layering and retry your Win7 cd for another go.

How to reformat back to windows vista ?

You need a windows Vista disc. Insert the disc and follow the prompts. I would format the hard drive instead of upgrading do a new install. The best way would be to go into your bios and make sure the boot device order has the cd-rom booting before the hard drive. Then put the disc in and start the computer, when it says press any key to boot from cd hit any key and let it load and then follow the prompts to install.

I need to reformat a dead harddrive

Hi there !!

Method 1: Perform a clean install of Windows XP loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); A clean installation consists of removing all data from your hard disk by repartitioning and reformatting your hard disk and reinstalling the operating system and programs to an empty (clean) hard disk. For more information about important things to consider before you partition and format you hard disk and how to partition and format your hard disk by using the Windows XP Setup program, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 313348 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313348/ ) How to partition and format a hard disk in Windows XP To perform a clean installation of Windows XP, follow these steps:
  1. Back up all important information before you perform a clean installation of Windows XP. Save the backup to an external location, such as a CD or external hard disk.
  2. Start your computer from the Windows XP CD. To do this, insert the Windows XP CD into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.

Note To boot from your Windows XP CD, the BIOS settings on your computer must be configured to do this.
  3. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows XP CD.
  4. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows XP Setup.
  5. Read the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then press F8.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows XP.
  7. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the Windows XP Setup.
If you have successfully installed Windows XP, you are finished. If these steps did not help you install Windows XP, go to the "Next Steps" section.

Here's the link that contains the screen shots as well:

http://www.buildeasypc.com/sw/windows_xp.htm

Try these steps & hopefully you will be able to format the Harddrive.

Need help

Backup all your data to a CD, or an online storage device such as http://skydrive.live.com/ (50MB Max limit), or search on google for "free online storage". Put in the Vista CD and restart your computer. Press F8 before Windows XP starts to load. Follow the steps to install Windows Vista. When it asks you, reformat your hardrive. WARNING: REFORMATING WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA, SO MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR IMPORTANT DATA BEFORE. You will then have a clean install of Vista which will allow your computer to run much faster. From there, you can restore/download your files that you backed up.
