Upon signing in, computer gave me a blank screen with colored diagonal lines. Turned it off and now it won't boot up. It starts to boot for a couple of seconds then goes silent, then tries to boot again, then silent. This cycle keeps going untill I hold power button down to end it. Nothing comes up on the screen. I can push the ESC button and the machine will stop cycling and sounds as if it has booted up but still nothing comes on the screen, not even the start up info you see before windows appears. Bought it in Feb.08 thus no warranty now.
I think this is a problem with the laptop's LCD display. To verify this connect the laptop to an external display and see if it resolves the issue. If it does then its confirmed that its a display related issue. Since the issue has appeared suddenly I dont think its a serious problem. May be just loose/disconnected connectors. Should be a 10 minute job for a qualified technician.
If the external display too doesn't come on then its an issue with the graphics card and you may need to replace it.
Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in
'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.
Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.
Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System
Restore
Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and
click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to
the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand
corner of the Month Calendar and select the first date that you see in Bold.
The
detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and
time on the right hand side box. Select that date.
Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a
reboot.
After reboot your problem should be resolved.
