Just bought one of these for $100 on craigslist with out knowing anything. After 5 mins of use the pressure was varying all over the place and the pump binding up to the point white clouds of smoke where coming from exhaust. After tons of online research w/o success I just figured I had nothing to loose so I tried my own fix and now I have over 3 hours of solid use stripping old paint from house with out a single issue. All I did was
1 ) Remove the black screw off tube pointing up on water pump. ( was caked with gritty oil deposits) cleaned out old oil.

2) Used red hot nail to put single hole threw center of top

3) Re- Install tube

4) Took a Manual 8" Multi Sports Ball Air Pump with Inflation Needle and removed the top to poor in Oil then re-sealed ( I used old Mobile 1 0/20 synthetic from my last oil change )

5) Injected oil with pump threw center hole, you will feel the pressure build up and then feel and hear the oil rushing threw to the pump

6) I placed a Plastic Round Cap Roofing Nail threw the hole to help keep out water.

Simple fix but it saved my $100 investment as the pump now is running strong with great pressure!

I added pictures so you could see my modification once done. I also added a picture of the work I am doing removing old paint from damaged wall to allow for stucco repair. As you can see I am getting more than enough pressure to get the job done.

I've worked on several of these so-called throwaway washers. They all failed from lack of oil. I managed to 'save' one and drilled and tapped a hole to add/ check oil.

SOURCE: what oil, how much oil, and how change oil on pump of ry80030a

The RY80030 Pressure washer has a Faip pump on it. There is no drain plug and you do not change the oil in it. The pump only holds 4.5 ounces of oil and the pump only has a life expectancy of between 30 and 50 hours. If for some reason The oil gets drained, remove the pump from the motor and set it on a bench standing up on end. Remove the allen bolts holding the water and oil sides of the pump together.Be carful as the piston springs are under load. fill the pump 3/4 of the way full and replace the head. there is a smoke stack on the pump but it is simply a breather not an oil fill.

SOURCE: pressure washer that leaks oil through the air breather

Most likely your air filter is plugged or dirty, or the crank case vent valve needs to be cleaned.if it still does it check that the oil level is at the full mark, if overfilled it would cause the same problem.

SOURCE: I have a troy build pressure washer model number

The pump requires no maintenance and no oil change. It is lubricated for life.

I have a Ryobi Pressure washer model number RY80030a. Water is leaking from the bottom where the pump head bolts to the carter. Is there suppose to be a gasket or sealant between the two parts?

each piston has a water seal and they often come in a water seal kit..... remove the head from the gearbox and replace. water seals are similar to oil seals

Briggs & Stratton Pressure Washer

From your description, it could be rusty water or oil. Depending on the model it could be 30w or 10w30 oil. These pumps are not supposed to need the oil changed, however ,some muppet may have changed the oil and used incorrect oil that has damaged a seal causing water to pressurize the casing and force oil out the breather or it may have been run with no water or it may have just been overfilled.
I would look online to find the correct oil and quantity for your model, check the oil in the casing to see if it is contaminated with water ( the oil will be milky brown if this is the case).
If water is present , the pump will need seals replaced ( assuming it works ok in every other way).
If the oil is clean, drain it out , replace it with the quantity and type recommended by the manufacturer and check the bungs to make sure they are sealing properly.
Good luck!

Oil milky white in pump

it may have a slow water leak inside the pump.
change oil and monitor the new oil.
if it goes milky the next time you use it then it has a bad leak and the seals will need to be
replaced, otherwise the bearings will rust & seize

How do i change the oil in my ryobi tiller. RY 80030 300PSI 27 GPM Serial no. AXH 03 90141

well the RY80030 is a pressure washer. But if you look on page 16 of your owner's manual, it shows you where the oil drain plug is located. When you fill in back up, it takes 20oz. of hd30w oil.

The water seals are leaking thus pushing water back past the oil seals into the crankcase and mixing with the oil resulting in the grey ooze.So a new pump kit will have to be installed and the oil replaced.
