With out a model number it's hard to diagnose but an older dishwasher with a mechanical timer that won't advance typicaly the time motor or electrical connection to said motor Good Luck

check if the water pump is not blocked in any way preventing the water from emptying properly as the machine wont continue until the water sensor tell the machine that its ready for the next cycle the pump may not be doing its job preventing the next cycle to take place eric
You can check the drain or the filter. You will have to pull it out of
the space it is now to access it. Items will get stuck in the drain
clogging it.
The small black relay on the main circuit board was overheated and the contacts were burnt.
If you held the start button in it would sometimes start.
Expensive fix is change the complete circuit board or find someone with electronics experience to change the relay which is a common 12V 10A type i.e. NEC MR301-12HS.
Many
dishwashers heat the wash and/or rinse water to a higher temperature,
as the cycle calls for it. In these cycles, the dishwasher pauses after
it has filled with water, waiting for the water to reach the pre-set
temperature. What happens next, depends, as follows:
On some units, the pause is timed and the unit continues after the allotted time.
On
others, the cycle can't continue until the water reaches the higher
temperature. If you have this type of dishwasher and the water isn't
being heated (say, because of a problem with the heating element or
thermostat), after the unit stops at the heating cycle, it never
continues. When you repair the heating-system problem, the "cycle
problem" is fixed too.

about six month ago I purchese the dishwasher, But It just stopped working, the green clean light just blinks all day and night, but wont start it's, when I push the red start button comes on but turns off about 5 seconds later turns of, and wont run and clean my dishes. All dishwashers usually start by draining first, if your machine does not detect that your machine is empty it will not start to wash. There are a few resons why this can happen, could be the pressure switch is stuck. Some machines ie bosch have a float switch mounted in the base so if your machine has leaked underneath and lifted the switch it will just stay on drain.... would help to know the make and model number
