HP W2338h 23 in. LCD TV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Oct 23, 2009

I just purchased a HP w2338h monitor. After only 2 days of partial use, I have 4 stripes running vertically on the left side of the monitor screen. The colors are 2 green, 2 red and the spacing between the stripes are different but approximately 1/4 inch to 1 inch apart

If the stripes are there even with nothing connected to the monitor, then your display is defective.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the investigation. I found some trouble shooting steps on the HP site, but having another opinion is helpful to confirming the point."

There is an apparent design problem with this monitor. If you apply pressure to the edge of monitor the lines disappear, but when you remove the pressure the lines return. Had monitor three days when lines appeared. Currently waiting on replacement from HP. If same problem will return to store of purchase. HP must be aware of this problem I have seen several complaints posted on their website forum.

Is the picture still visible? If it is yes you just need to factory reset the monitor. If not, check your inverter.

I have an HP w2338h that has developed a tiny thin vertical line, top to bottom of the screen about about two-thirds over from the left side of the screen. I've tried all the simple stuff and nothing...

That is asign of failing LCD panel (the LCD controller (T-CON)) board is goin out, it will get worst with more lines. Not much you can do. You can try reseating the ribbon cable between the panal and the Logic board. You can look here to see what the LCD controller board looks like.

I have 2 lines running down my monitor screen. One blue, one green.

They are vertical lines running from top to the bottom, then it can be loose ribbon cable or dirty connectors, or failed LCD controller board (part of the LCD panel assembly, whole panel will have to be replaced).

Right half of screen is Black with a White vertical stripe

Yeah, I have this exact same problem, except my mom slammed my laptop shut in frustration around half an hour ago, so that's why it's like this. The right half of my screen is black with two colorful stripes (mostly white), but the left half is visible. I've researched a bit and found out that this is because the LCD in your monitor has burnt out, and since you don't have a monitor to attach, the only thing you can do is to go to where you bought the laptop and either get it fixed for free or return it for a brand new one (if your warranty still stands). If not, you might as well get a new laptop. I think my warranty has expired, so I'll get a new laptop, hopefully.

Hope this helps!

42" Panasonic Plasma - Vertical red stripe 6" from left side

We originally had a red stripe roughly 3" wide running vertically on the ride edge area of our Panasonic 52" Viera plasma tv. It has now been joined by a solid black stripe of the same width running from the top to the bottom. Living in Germany and purchased at local PX long enough ago that the warranty is likely expired. Now what?

Black Out

Hi Detrix, Check with www.lcdrepair.net if you want a repair. Something is wrong with your LCD controller and or GUI interface circuit or the circuit supplying power to it. If your technically endowed, you may want to open the monitor case and clean the dust and lint from around the circuits using a Small paint brush to sweep away any built up dust. These circuits take the Signal from the computer and controls the 2.5 million pixels on the LCD screen. Dsut can cause major problems with handling all that data. Give it a shot, what do you have to loose, its not dangerous if the monitor is unplugged.
