1. Go to the start menu. 2. Type task scheduler and press enter. 3. Press continue on the UAC popup. 4. In the left pane of task scheduler, underneath Task Scheduler Local, right-click on Task Scheduler Library. 5. In the View submenu, make sure the Show Hidden Tasks option is checked. 6. Widen the Name column in the center pane. The hidden task that is likely at fault has a name that starts with User_Feed_Synchronization, followed by a dash and a bunch of digits inside a curly brace. 7. Select that task in the middle pane by clicking on its name. 8. To verify that this scheduled task is creating all those taskeng.exe processes, select the History tab in the middle pane near the middle of the screen. If you expand out the Level and Date and Time Columns, you should see a bunch of errors and date and times that are 5 minutes apart. If that's the case, then this task is the problem. 9. On the rightmost pane, select Disable. 10. There may be more than one scheduled task like this, so you'd need to disable any or all that were causing problems.

I had the same problem and I got it to work. I have Windows Vista and
Microsoft Office 2007 on my computer. Here's what I did...
Go to "Start" then "Control Panel".
-Click on "Programs and Features".
-Scroll down to Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 - click on that and then click on the "Change" link above.
-A box will pop up, click on "Add or Remove Features" and then click "Continue".
-Click on the "+" next to "Office Tools"
-Click on the "+" next to "Microsoft Office Document Imaging"
-Click on the down arrow next to "Scanning, OCR and Indexing..."
-Then, click on "Run from my Computer"
-Next click on "Continue" at the bottom of the dialogue box and your configuration process should begin
Once completed go to the start menu and type in "Scan" into the search
box. Go to "Microsoft Office Document Scanning" Once there, plug your
scanner into you computer, chose what color you want your scan to be in,
and click on the picture of the scanner to the right. To make my scans
clear, I had to click on "Scanner..." and chose KODAK ESP AiO as my
scanner even though I have a KODAK ESP-3 printer/scanner.
I hope these instructions weren't too confusing and I hope this helps
some of you out! My scanner was causing me a lot of frustration for a
while!
if the scanner bar is stuck in the center then U hav to call Lexmark tech support at 8003324120 & have them chk the warranty of the printer.. if its in warranty it can be replaced
Sound like your explorer.exe process is crashing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and select Task Manager. Press the button to view processes from all users, and look for "explorer.exe". If it's there, select it and hit End Task and then move on to the next step. If it isn't then just do this: select File->New Task, and type in "explorer" without quotes in the new window that pops up. When you hit OK it should load up. If explorer appears in the Task Manager for a moment and then disappears then something is consistently causing it to crash. You will then need to boot from the install DVD and perform a repair. Once you can get back into Windows then immediately do a virus scan and a spyware scan. I recommend Avast Anti-Virus and Hitman Pro.
please check all sensor arms in the document feeder. The sensor arm in the middle just below the separation pad is called 'paper end sensor'. If this sensor arm is blocked or broken the scanner don't stop the feeder. Another possibility is a driver error.
