I was watching my Akai when all of a sudden the picture went out and when I went to turn it on all I get is the red light on the front just flashes.
Just a thaught, I could be wrong, maybe a problem with the power button on the remote ? It might shut the TV off, and when you do keep pressing the remote button, the red light on the TV will keep flashing like that also. Ive seen this prob on a few other blogs, so seems to be pretty common. I know I like to keep the remote pointed at the TV all the time, maybe try pointing it away for a while, just to see.
Id also try unpluggin the tv for a day.
Or maybe the tv remote receiver is picking up an infared signal from another source or remote nearby.
And my last shot in the dark would be the on/off button on the tv is sticking or defective.
Otherwise Id say something major was wrong and the tv's tryin to tell us something.

I also have that same problem with my LCD LTC2715 won't turn on an have a flickering light. It is only two years old.
TV automatically turns off. I turn it back on, and it turns off again. Happens every so often, and sometimes won't turn back on as well.
I dont have a remote for the tv. But I have the same problem. Wont turn on, light just blinks

My Akai PT5598HDTV is 4 years old. When I try to turn the set on there's no picture or sound, just a blinking red timer light. The timer blinks 9 times. Do you have any suggestions?
