Dayton 3E227A Heating Cycle

I have an old 75 K BTU Dayton shop heater in a large (approx 24' x 48') garage. For the last two years it has started to produce heat only in short cycles. The burner will come on for a time, maybe up to two minutes and go off as the fan comes on. The burner will then immediately come back on for a short time and again shut off as the fan cycles on. It will repeat these short cycles until the thermostat senses the set temperature. The heater did not work this way before. It used to run continuously until the set temperature was reached. What could be causing this change in operation?

Thanks, I'll check the connections and try to find the internal sensor to see if it needs cleaning or replacement.

The sensor for the thermostat is probably going bad or has bad connections. It is (or thinks it is) heating up fast and therefore shuts of the heater.

Trying to find a replacement fan motor for a dayton electric garage heater moodel number 3e547 its around 12 years old

Go to grainger supply.com then go to dayton heaters with your model number and part number if you can find it,along with description of parts you need. I have been dealing with them for years and they are the main distributor for dayton furnaces.
They carry a large selection of parts and generally ship within two days. Hope this helps you. Thank you.

Is there any place to get a heating element for an OLD Dayton Electric Garage Heater..... model 3E087..... 240V, 10,000watt. It has a circular heating element, and only the inner most part of the element...

I think your best bet is to go to Grainger.com. and go to repair parts for dayton furnaces with your model and serial number and part no. if possible. You can also call1-800-323-0620 and get location of dealer nearest to you.
I have dealt with them for many years and they have always treated me right. Not always the cheapest but I have been happy with the service and the expertise of their staff. I hope this helps you and have a good new year.
Thank you.

I have a 25,000 BTU hanging furnace, will this heat a 900sq foot garage that has been insulated.

Here in Vermont we design heating systems to perform at -10 to -20 degrees. Depending upon how tight the doors and windows are, it may if your temperatures don't drop below 20 degrees. It may take a while to heat up and I would not expect any temperature over 62 degrees inside the garage. Maybe a 50,000 Btu heater? Remember the output may be 20% less than the rated input of the heater.
