Honda generator ei3000. Will run only a few mins then stops. Checked all the fuel system. Tried brand new carb. Tried fresh fuel direct to carb inlet. Tried disconecting carb motor. Checked oil level system. acts like a fuel problem but can't find any. Bowl clean. spark good, and starts normally, runs maybe 1 min. Jets clean. Ideas??
Make sure the gas cap is not completely closed. This generator may be like the 200 model in that it needs air in the fuel mix to keep running.Make sure the gas cap is not completely closed. This generator may be like the 200 model in that it needs air in the fuel mix to keep running.

Fuel mixed properly and fresh?
if you put a few drops of fuel directly into carb, does it run for a few seconds?
have you checked the piston for scoring? (By removing muffler)
If it runs at all, then it is not the spark, so it must be fuel.
Flush the tank and put in new clean fuel. If it still does not run right, then you probably need to rebuild the carbureator.
i usually do a quick test of a small few onzes of fuel down the plug hole and reinstal plag and see if i9 fire up and run for a lil bit. maybe 5 -10 seconds. now i know i have spark . most usually our wonderful fuel is the problem. its just nasty now. it can stick a needle to the seat. it can hold her open . one way ya flood out. the other ya starv out. give it a try.
If this has the thick silver gas cap, I have had similar problems on a number of these engines because it is a vented fuel cap and it will slow or even stop the fuel flow if they stop venting Try loosening or better yet replacing it. If that doesnt solve it then you may want to drain the fuel and put in fresh fuel Pressure washers will get water in the tank. Also make sure you drain the carb bowl. There is a bolt on the side of the carb bowl for that purpose.
Sounds like fuel flow is restricted. Is the vent cap on the gas tank clear? Pull the fuel hose off at the carb and let run into a container from the tank......is fuel flow good while filling a cup or two worth of fuel? If not check filter at fuel switch or at hose connection at tank for restriction. It takes about 2 minutes to use up fuel in the carb with engine running. Sure sounds like a fuel problem.
shut fuel off at tank, pull fuel line off carb ,slowly turn on fuel if fuel flows freely(real good stream)your carb needs replacement(cant buy parts to rebuild EPA) if fuel just barely trickles out . there is a screen in the fuel tank that is probably clogged
yes gas will deteriate and leave varnish deposits clogging carberator and layer in tank has yellowish color flush lines with brake cleaner and spray carb with spray carb cleaner and spray inside fuel inlet on carb let sit about 15 minutes redo and sit about 4 times clean fuel tank with brake cleaner (with tank off) until clean, refill with fresh gas and add about table spoon carb cleaner per quart of gas and let in run for awhile. when storing for any period of time add fuel stabilizer to avoid this issue in future
