I have a Viking VGSU161-6BSS that is 11 years old. The range top is mounted on top of the cabinets but we intermittently smell gas in the lower cabinets when we open the drawers or a cabinet door. Not sure if it is a lingering smell after we use the range top but we have had a plumber out and checked the connections to the range top and he has found no leaks and he suspects the range top as the culprit for the intermittent leak. The smell or leak seems minor as it quickly dissipates when the doors or drawers are opened. Any suggestions or recommendations before we locate someone authorized to work on this appliance. Thanks...Steve

I had an authorized Viking appliance repair person onsite to resolve this issue and he could not find a gas leak. He took the unit apart and checked everything without being able to recreate the problem. He suspects that the gas we sometimes smell when opening our cabinets is due the remaining gas left in the line (between the burner and the burner valve) and that it is migrating down into the cabinet below. His suggestion was to leave the exhaust vent on for approximately 15 minutes after we finish using the cooktop to make sure that any remaining gas is removed. So far so good. When we follow that instruction we do not have the residual gas smell in the cabinets.
