To install a printer in window 7, you need the printer installation CD/software.

Connect the printer to your system via a USB Cable (or any other cable necessary). Power on the printer. If you use a USB cable, windows 7 will automatically detect the printer and try to install it for you. However, if windows 7 does not have the driver, you will be prompted to load the drive from CD or a file location. ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
If the printer is active on the network, you will receive a reply.
  1. If your printer doesn't respond, or if the IP address is not what you expected:

    1. Insert the Drivers and Utilities CD into your computer.

    1. The Drivers and Utilities CD should launch the installation software automatically.

If the CD does not automatically launch, click Start® Run, type D:setup.exe (where D is the drive letter of your CD), and then click OK.
    1. When the Drivers and Utilities CD screen appears, click Set IP Address Utility.

    2. Select your printer from the "Configure Print Servers" list, and then click TCP/IP Settings.

No software disk to load 1700 into Dell 6400 Inspiron laptop.

In Windows, how do I install my printer? Most new printers, especially USB printers, come with installer programs. If you have neither installation instructions nor an installation program, you can use one of the following procedures to install most printers:
USB printers (Windows 98, Me, 2000, and XP only)
  1. Make sure that the USB cable is unplugged from your computer and your printer. USB devices work differently from older devices and usually need to have the drivers installed before you connect the device.

  2. If you have an installation disk, insert it into the drive. If there is an installer provided, it should run or be executed here. Follow its instructions, and it should take care of installing your printer in a few moments.

  3. If you don't have an installation program, plug the USB cable into your computer and your printer. This should trigger the Add New Hardware Wizard.

  4. Click Next, and then select Search for the best driver for your device. Click Next.

  5. Uncheck all options except Specify a Location. Click Browse. Browse to the disk, CD, or directory where your printer drivers are located. Click OK, and then click Next twice. Note: You can download some drivers from the web. Consult the web site of your printer's manufacturer, or see Where can I find driver updates for my Windows computer?
  6. When all the files are copied, click Finish.

  7. Turn on your printer. Windows should detect the printer's presence and finish the installation. If the option to print a test page is offered, do so. This will confirm the installation. Click Finish.

Hi laq,

I'm not sure if it was me who answered your ?, I'll assume not, try it this way once:
Create a new folder on your desktop and name it newhpdrivers(substitute your manufacturer in new name). Un-intall printer and printer software completely. Go to manufacturers website and navigate to their drivers/downloads or support menu. Select your model, choose the relevant software and download to the new folder you created on your desktop(watch for the light yellow bar at the top of window viewing pane, click on this and choose – download file - . Power down your computer. Reconnect the printer to the computer and turn printer on. Power on pc. Windows will detect new hardware and ask if you have the manufacturers install cd or a location to check for install files. Direct the wizard to your new software, follow the rest of the setup instructions and your done.

I try to print from Microsoft Word or the internet or any other program and its not printing anything i tried everything! i even did the test to see if something is plugged and it did fine and printed but...

This is most likely due to a driver fault. The "driver" is just a small piece of software that lets a computr communicate with other devices (peripherals). Disconnect the printer and put the CD in the computer (the CD that came with your printer) and follow the instructions. If no instructions or interface loads on the screen when you insert the CD then simply connect the printer to the computer...when the message box prompts you to specify what was connected to the computer, then browse for the driver by directing the brose option to the CD drive where the driver is located. If this fails or if it is too hard to do, then go to the canon website and go to their support page. Here you can download drivers for your inkjet by searching for the model. Once you have the corrct driver installed then:

  1. In Windows XP, click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.
In Windows 2000, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
  2. In Windows XP, under Printer Tasks, click Add a printer. In Windows 2000, double-click the Add Printer icon.
  3. Follow the instructions in the Add Printer Wizard. If you want to print a test page, make sure the printer is turned on and ready to print.

Scanner does not work

First make sure that the scanner drivers and all the PSC drivers have been installed.
Or try to reinstall the printer drivers by removing all Hewlett Packard's applications from "add - remove programs" in the control panel. Then disconnect your printer and restart the computer.
When the PC finishes loading windows, insert the HP printer software CD while pressing SHIFT on the keyboard for 30 seconds. Connect the printer again and follow the "Found new hardware" wizard instructions. When a gray sandglass pops up, choose "Decline" or "Not agree" to the license terms and continue with the installation.
After that, try to scan again from Photoshop or another scanning program. Remember that in the reinstallation, you haven't installed the HP image zone software.
