What do you do to get the most suction power from the DC04 dyson zorbster. It seems the only way to do it is to bang it which can't be the right way.The settings at the bottom do not seem to work and I have no instructions.

Clean or change the filters every 3 months and maybe have it serviced every year

Mine, 12 years old, is exactly the same - banging it kind of jolts it into more suction. I have just replaced the clutch, and washed the filters, so it wasn't either of those. Getting the old clutch out needed an extra step that the videos for ordinary DC04 machines don't need, as the zorbster clutch has a spindle coming out of the wide end that gets caught up when trying to remove it.

I have a Dyson DC04 Zorbster. Sometimes there is very little suction & the motor runs slower than normal. If I give it a little shake or push down on the bin (my wife tends to give it a kick) the motor...

Hi David, it's Jack at Dyson.

The issue you're describing sounds very unusual. If the motor seems to be changing speed in use, this could suggest a fault with the motor. DC04 is one of our very oldest machines, and unfortunately due to its age we're no longer able to support it with servicing or spares. However, it would be worth giving our experts a call so we can help confirm if the motor is the cause of the issue - and we can also discuss other the options available to you.

When you have your machine to hand, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298. We're available from 8am-8pm from Monday to Friday, and 8am-6pm on weekends. Calls are free from UK landlines.

We'll look forward to speaking to you.

DC04 has lost suction?

Hi there,

If your DC04 doesn't seem to be picking up as well as usual, you may want to follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to ensure everything is correct with your machine:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc04/dc04-brush-control/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/wand-suction

The filter may also need a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 12 hours for the filter to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing it.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please call us on 0800 298 0298. Our Helpline is available from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week.

Best wishes,

Jack

No suction on floors but OK on hose

Hi there,

If your DC04 picks up as normal through the wand, but not through the cleaner head, this may be due to a blockage in the machine. The filter may also need a wash. To locate and remove any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online support guide:

http://support.dyson.co.uk/support/dc04/dc04-brush-control/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/wand-suction

My hose tools wont pick up. when hose tools unattached suction is fine and will **** my hand fiercely, but once tool attached no suction..... how am i gonna pick up cat hair from seats now?! its a dyson...

I have a DC04 and the hose tools are a open hole. The only reason they want pick up is they are blocked. If you say they are sucking your hand when not attached.Make sure the hose is not blocked by taking off the cover at the front.Allso check the cylinder rubber seal is sealing the dust container.Thats the only problem i had with mine.Good luck.

The DC04 Zorbster runs slow, it still picks up but I am worried it will overheat. If I hit it at the front, the motor picks up speed until the next time I start it up. Can you help???

The problem is likely caused by either (a) a broken or worn microswitch operating lever or (b) a faultyt microswitch. With the bin removed, the lever becomes visible just above the filter upon which the base of the bin normally rests.

Replacement of either part necessitates dismantling the appliance. The necessary parts are available from http://www.espares.co.uk/parts/dyson/dc04-zorbster/p/1086/716/4/420621

How do I replace the microswitch in my dyson DC04 Zorbster

Move the flexible hose at the rear out off the way and you will see a small hole that goes through to the on/off switch assembly. Use a small screwdriver through the hole to push the plastic clip away and you can then lift off the on/off button. You will then see a phillips screw that holds the switch assembly/housing to the main unit. Just unscrew and the whole switch unit can be removed.

Dyson dc04 motor runs but has no suction.

I would make sure it is the motor first by isolating the sounds to just the motor. Take off the dirt cup, both filters, and belt, then run it and see if the sound is still there. If it is, you need a new motor. If it isn't, you need to look for a clog, or bad roller bearing.

To take the motor out first undo the wiring running down the backside of the unit inside of the switch housing. Then take the four screws out that hold the outer motor housing on, and the rest pops apart. Once you get inside, the gaskets make it a really tight fit, so you might have to hit the motor shaft with a rubber mallet to get it out and use penetrating oil on the bottom gasket to get the new motor to slide back in.

I guess there is no easy explanation. Let me know how it goes.
